Chargers' athletes recognized

Athletes from Wayne Country Day were recognized for their outstanding achievements during a season-ending, spring sports ceremony Monday evening.

Seniors Catherine Ford and Mack Thompson shared the female Sam Patrick Award, which honors a life-time athlete. Senior three-sport letter-winner Hil Tanner earned the male Sam Patrick Award.

Tanner also grabbed a spot on the Coastal Plains Independent Conference Scholastic All-Conference team along with Ford, and each collected the WCDS Scholar Athlete Award.

Emily Warren and Aaron Forde won the school's female and male FCA/Sportsmanship Awards, respectively.

Senior Katherine Roethling, who won a state doubles tennis championship in the fall, received the CPIC Sportsmanship Award.

Coaches presented awards in seven sports:

* Varsity girls' soccer: Stopper of the Year -- Mack Thompson; Hustle Award -- Margaux Pope; Most Improved -- Bailee Creger; MVP Offense -- Sarah Best; MVP -- Catherine Ford; All-CPIC -- Thompson, Ford, Best and Pope; NCISAA All-State -- Ford and Best.

* Varsity boys' tennis: Coach's Award -- Charlie Roethling; Most Improved -- Douglas Williams; MVP -- Michael Knutson; All-CPIC -- Knutson, Jack Langston, Miller Gerard and Williams (honorable mention).

* Varsity baseball: Senior Awards -- Hil Tanner, Cole Davis, Josh Jackson and Trent Proimos; MVP -- Davis; All-CPIC -- Tanner, Davis, Mason Bland, Cody Neal and Josh Jackson (honorable mention); NCISAA All-State -- Davis and Neal.

* JV baseball: Most Improved -- Parker Smith; Sportsmanship Award -- Hayes Gerrard.

* Varsity softball: Coach's Award -- Kate Thompson; Golden Glove -- Sarah Crooks; Most Versatile -- Jessica Eisenhauer, Logan Harrell; High on-base percentage -- Payton Meadows; MVP -- Brooke Neal.

* Girls' track and field: Coach's Award -- Emily Warren.

* Boys' track and field: Coach's Award -- Zach Brewer-Kirby.
