Escalante extends hitting streak

MOUNT OLIVE -- Geno Escalante cranked out four hits for the third consecutive game and No. 11-ranked Mount Olive College dismantled in-state rival Shaw University, 15-6, at Scarborough Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Escalante has hit safely in 22 straight outings.
Nine different Trojans delivered at least one hit in the game. Jermaine Berry, Jacob Rogers and Nick Gaeta each delivered two RBI. Rogers was named the Conference Carolinas player-of-the-week.
Josh Frederick claimed the pitching win.
Mount Olive (24-6 overall) plays host to league archrival Erskine (S.C.) College in a pivotal three-game series, which begins Friday. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday.
Taliercio shines
MOUNT OLIVE -- Nicole Taliercio delivered a two-out, game-tying RBI single in the sixth inning and the Mount Olive College softball team prevailed 2-1 in game two of a non-conference doubleheader against Catawba on Tuesday afternoon.
Taliercio concluded the game 3-for-3 and Sarah Saunders fired a complete-game, four-hitter.
Catawba claimed the opener 6-1.
MOC (19-13) plays host to Pfeiffer on Friday.
Spikers swept
MISENHEIMER -- Adam Miracle pounded out 12 kills, but it wasn't enough in Mount Olive's 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 setback against Conference Carolinas men's volleyball foe Pfeiffer University on Tuesday evening.
The loss snapped the Trojans' nine-match win streak.
Jackson Metichecchia recorded 29 assists.
MOC (15-13 overall, 6-3 CC) concludes regular-season play at home April 7 against Limestone (S.C.) College.
