Cleveland 1 (6 inn.)
* CLAYTON -- Cameron Taylor drove in a career-high six runs and Charles B. Aycock dispatched Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent Cleveland, 11-0, in a mercy rule-shortened game Friday.
Officials halted the game after six innings.
Taylor rapped a two-RBI double in the third inning and swatted a grand slam in the fourth inning. Adam Pate delivered two hits and three official at-bats, while Justin Barbour supplied one hit and two RBI.
Pate tossed five shutout innings and fanned eight Cleveland batters. Collin DuBose provided one inning of three-strikeout relief.
"We bounced back pretty good yesterday," CBA head coach Charles Davis said after the Golden Falcons endured a 6-0 loss at North Lenoir on Wednesday.
Aycock (6-1 overall, 3-1 ECC) entertains county archrival and ECC co-leader Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.
Faith Christian splits twinbill
* Oak Level Christian Academy handed Faith Christian its first loss of the season, 7-1, on Friday afternoon, but the Conquerors salvaged their non-conference doubleheader with an 8-3 triumph over Liberty Christian of Durham.
Trent Wise batted 2-for-3 and Wes Caudle doubled in a 2-for-3 outing in Faith's setback against Oak Level. Michael Clarke surrendered six hits in a four-inning stint, but was victimized by a defense that committed three costly errors.
In the nightcap, Brandon Jones and Silas Denlinger combined for a three-hitter on the mound. Jones fanned four Liberty batters in three innings, while Denlinger hurled two innings of five-strikeout relief.
Connor Anderson tripled and scored a run. Wise went 2-for-3.
Faith Christian (4-1 overall) faces Trinity Christian of Greenville in a N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A game on Monday.
North Lenoir 6, South Johnston 2
* BENSON -- Caleb Kearney permitted one earned run in 4 2/3 innings of work, and Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference co-leader North Lenoir upended South Johnston, 6-2, on Friday evening.
Kearney yielded four hits, struck out seven and walked two. Zach Casper logged the save with 2 1/3 innings of no-hit, two-strikeout relief.
Chastin Radford batted 2-for-4 and scored a run. Mikal Batts went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kearney (three RBI), Sammy West, Brian Hardy and JT Williams also contributed to the Hawks' offensive attack.
North Lenoir (6-2 overall, 4-0 ECC) travels to county archrival South Lenoir on Wednesday.
North Duplin 11, Lejeune 1 (5 inn.)
* CALYPSO -- Larry White and Ryan Wolfe combined for a five-hitter and North Duplin throttled Lejeune, 11-1, in a mercy rule-shortened contest Friday evening.
White logged six strikeouts and Wolfe fanned four Devilpup batters.
Breyon Johnson batted 3-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBI. Joseph King contributed a double and three RBI. Mitchell Thigpen added a double and three RBI in a 2-for-3 effort.
"(The) team was focused and we hit the ball, unlike the week before when we were at Lejeune," first-year North Duplin head coach James Hobbs said.
The Rebels (5-1 overall) entertain Lakewood on Monday.
James Kenan 15, Pender 0
* BURGAW -- Gunnar Wolz doubled and tripled, and James Kenan spanked Pender, 15-0, in a mercy rule-shortened outing on the Tri-County 1-A Conference scene.
Kedron Foster doubled, walked twice and plated two runs. Andre Smith batted 2-for-4 and scored a run, while Steed Jones contributed one hit and an RBI.
Wolz notched 12 strikeouts and allowed one hit in six innings of work.
The Tigers (2-5 overall, 1-2 TCC) entertain Lakewood on Wednesday.
Girls' soccer
C.B. Aycock 1, Cleveland 0
* CLAYTON -- Cheyenne Warrick notched the game-winning goal in the first overtime period and Charles B. Aycock shut out Cleveland, 1-0, in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play Friday evening.
The Golden Falcons (5-3-0 overall) seized sole possession of the ECC lead at 4-0 and entertain Wilson Beddingfield on Monday at 5 p.m.
Warrick scored her 24th goal of the season off Sam Parrish's corner kick.
Keeper Alex Van-Meir logged the shutout between the pipes.
Softball
C.B. Aycock 19, Cleveland 1 (5 inn.)
* CLAYTON -- Junior first baseman Meredith Burroughs batted 5-for-5, slugged a home run and collected five RBI in Charles B. Aycock's 19-1 thrashing of Cleveland in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play Friday evening.
Burroughs also doubled twice and threw one inning of scoreless relief inside the pitcher's circle.
Senior right-hander Brooke Bell yielded one hit, fanned 10 batters and surrendered an unearned run in four innings of work. She contributed two hits, including a double on offense.
Rachel Jordan pounded out four hits and plated two runs. Reagan Herndon (two RBI), Connor Davis (RBI) and Cierra Harris (two RBI) provided two hits apiece. Ivy Hartzell (RBI), Misty Edwards (RBI), Brianna Brown (RBI) and Katie Gay (RBI) each contributed one hit.
Aycock finished with 21 hits overall.
The Golden Falcons (6-2 overall, 3-0 ECC) travel to North Lenoir on Monday, and entertain county rival Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.
North Duplin 15, Lejeune 2
* CALYPSO -- Ansley Hill cranked out two doubles and North Duplin scored all the offense it needed during the first two innings of a 15-2, non-conference hammering of Lejeune on Friday afternoon.
The Rebels scored seven first-inning runs and tacked on eight in their next at-bat.
Sophomore hurler Alexis Sutton permitted two hits and fanned four Devilpup batters inside the pitcher's circle, and claimed the mercy rule-shortened victory.
Sutton, Christin Boykin, Alonna Pate, Casey Thornton, Noelle Scritchfield and Skylar McCarty each provided one hit.
Boys' tennis
Trinity-Durham 5, Wayne Country Day 4
* Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill claimed the match-clinching point at No. 2 doubles and handed Wayne Country Day a 5-4, non-conference loss on Friday afternoon.
The Chargers (1-1 overall) picked up singles points from top-seeded Michael Knutson and second-seeded Jack Langston. The tandems of Knutson-Miller Gerard and Hunter Hawkins-Charlie Roethling prevailed in doubles play.
