Baseball

Spring Creek 8, South Lenoir 7

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek hung on for an 8-7 win over South Lenoir on Tuesday evening.

Corey Howell picked up the win on the mound with two innings of relief.

Chris Nichols (RBI), Chad Spurgeon and Howell all supplied two hits for the Gators. Duane Gurganus, Luke Miller and Logan Miller each contributed a hit and an RBI. Allen Coor also had a hit.

Spring Creek (1-3 overall) visits Southern Wayne today.

North Duplin 7, Hobbton 0

* CALYPSO -- North Duplin improved to 4-0 with a 7-0 win against Hobbton on Tuesday evening.

Mitchell Thigpen pitched six shutout innings and allowed three hits with six strikeouts to earn the win. James Kornegay contributed two hits, including a triple and two RBI. Konnor Brock and Thigpen each had a hit.

The Rebels visit Lejeune on Thursday.

C.B. Aycock 8, Triton 0

* PIKEVILLE -- Bryant Stafford pitched 4 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball and Charles B. Aycock blanked Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent Triton 8-0 on Tuesday night.

Stafford recorded five strikeouts and surrendered five walks. Adam Pate pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, and allowed one hit with five strikeouts and a walk.

Pate supplied two hits and two RBI. Blake Sutton also had two hits. Cameron Taylor belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning to break the game open.

The Golden Falcons (4-0 overall, 1-0 ECC) visit North Lenoir on Friday.

North Lenoir 11, Cleveland 7

* CLAYTON -- North Lenoir began Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with an 11-7 win on Tuesday night at Cleveland.

Addison Harper collected two hits and two RBI for the Hawks. Mikal Batts added two hits and an RBI. Sammy West supplied two hits and also scored twice. Caleb Baird had two hits.

Zach Casper earned the win on the mound allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 3 2/3 innings.

North Lenoir (3-1 overall, 1-0 ECC) visits Greene Central today.

Faith Christian 13,

Liberty Christian 3 (5 inn.)

* Wes Caudle and Trent Wise slugged three hits apiece in Faith Christian's 13-3, season-opening win over Liberty of Durham on Tuesday afternoon.

Caudle also recorded 4 RBI.

Michael Clarke and Brandon Jones combined for nine strikeouts in four innings of work on the hill.

Faith Christian (1-0 overall) opens its N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A schedule at Trinity Christian of Greenville on Friday.

Wallace-Rose Hill 16, Goldsboro 4

* Zach Falconer supplied a hit and an RBI in Goldsboro's 16-4, mercy rule-shortened loss to Wallace-Rose Hill on Tuesday afternoon.

Ronald Woody added one hit and endured the pitching loss.

The Cougars (0-3 overall) play host to Jones Senior on Friday.

Softball

Faith Christian 12,

Liberty Christian 2 (5 inn.)

* Faith Christian needed just five innings to defeat Liberty Christian of Durham 12-2 in its season-opening game on Tuesday afternoon.

Hannah Stocks, Brianna Champion and Meredith Clark each provided two hits for the Conquerors. Stocks recorded seven strikeouts in four innings of work to earn the win inside the pitcher's circle. Abigail Pierce had one strikeout in one inning of relief.

Faith (1-0 overall) visits N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A rival Trinity Christian of Greenville on Friday.

North Duplin 6, Hobbton 5

* CALYPSO -- North Duplin held off Hobbton for a 6-5 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Skylar McCarty led the Rebels with two hits, including a solo home run. Casey Thornton, Raychel Barwick, Noelle Stritchfield and Ansley Hill each had one hit.

North Duplin travels to Lejeune on Thursday.

South Johnston 6,

Eastern Wayne 2

* Eastern Wayne began Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with a 6-2 loss against South Johnston on Tuesday evening.

Brooke Morawski led the Warriors with two hits and a run scored. Rachel McCollum added a hit and two RBI.

Starla Strickland suffered the loss inside the pitcher's circle. She allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits in four innings. Allison Newsome pitched three shutout innings of relief and surrendered one hit.

Eastern Wayne (1-3 overall, 0-1 ECC) entertains Cleveland on Friday.

Wilson Beddingfield 11,

Southern Wayne 2

* DUDLEY -- Wilson Beddingfield defeated Southern Wayne 11-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Madison Davis paced the Saints' offense with three hits and an RBI. Hope Rose and Cierra Moody each had a hit.

Davis suffered the loss inside the pitcher's circle.

Southern Wayne (1-3 overall) entertains Spring Creek today.

Wallace-Rose Hill 38, Goldsboro 0

* Goldsboro endured a 38-0 loss to Wallace-Rose Hill on Tuesday.

The Cougars (0-4 overall) play host to Jones Senior on March 12.

Girls' soccer

Eastern Wayne 1, South Johnston 0

* Megan Mozingo scored the only goal of the game in the 31st minute and Eastern Wayne slipped past Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe South Johnston 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Erica Duke recorded four saves in goal for the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne (2-1-0, 2-0-0 ECC) entertains Cleveland on Friday.

Boys' tennis

C.B. Aycock 9, Wilson Hunt 0

* WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock dominated Wilson Hunt 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

Will Hoff, Michael Kearney, Addison Vail, Austin Walker, Chas Hooks and Sam Chastain each earned a singles victory for the Golden Falcons.

The doubles teams of Hoff-Kearney, Vail-Walker and Hooks-Chastain also prevailed.

Aycock (4-0 overall) visits Cleveland on Thursday.

Wayne Christian 7, Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 2

* ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Christian won four of six singles matches and picked up a 7-2, non-conference win Tuesday afternoon at Faith Christian-Rocky Mount.

Christopher Easom, Matthew Jackson, Hunter Timmerman and Graham Fussell all provided singles victories for the Eagles. The teams of Daniel Glover-Easom, Nicholas Easom-Timmerman and Jackson-Fussell were also victorious.

Wayne Christian (2-1 overall) travels to Rosewood on Thursday.

Girls' track

Gators place second

* Spring Creek finished second in a three-team meet with North Johnston and the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf on Tuesday afternoon.

The Gators' Cassidy Goff finished first in the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump. Magen Jones earned a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.

Spring Creek's 3,200-meter relay team of Sara Boltinhouse, Maria Garcia and Sarah Casey and Vidalina Perez also finished first.

Golf

Walnut Creek LGA

* Hiromi Sueki emerged the low gross winner during the season-opening weekly tournament contested at Walnut Creek Country Club.

Faye Franklin secured low net. Mary Morris and Linda Cannon shared low putts.

JV sports

* Baseball: Wayne Christian 15, Neuse Charter 0 -- Hunter Burt, Bryce Norman, Tanner Rose, Trey Hinton, Jake Riffle and Austin Howell each had two hits for the Eagles. Cameron Foss, Chandler Gentry and Howell all pitched a scoreless inning.

* Baseball: Eastern Wayne 3, South Johnston 1 -- Coy Barnett and Josh Vandiford both had two hits for the Warriors. Brandon Johnson collected the win on the mound surrendering one run on five hits in six innings. Braxton Lewis earned the save with an inning of relief.

* Girls' soccer: Eastern Wayne 2, South Johnston 0 -- Estephanie Ponce and Patricia Malcolm both scored for the Warriors.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Wayne Christian 15, Neuse Charter 0 -- Hunter Foster and Carlyle Smith combined to pitch a one-hitter. Nick Sutton led the Eagles with three hits. The Eagles play host to Bethel Christian on Friday.

* Softball: Wayne Christian 10, Neuse Charter 2 -- Kelsey Sanders got the win in the pitcher's circle for the Eagles striking out 12 and walking 10. Sanders contributed two hits, while Georgia Parnell and Kasey Norris each had one hit.
