HANNIBAL, MO. -- Mount Olive continued its spring break trip across the Midwest on Monday evening and swept a pair of non-conference matches during a tri-meet contested at Hannibal-LaGrange College.
Junior outside hitter Adam Miracle delivered 17 kills and Dan Arnold paced the defense with 19 digs in a 25-20, 26-24, 25-16 conquest of Missouri Valley. Miracle supplied 19 kills and Tim Ebbecke logged a career-high 10 blocks -- one shy of tying the school record -- during a 25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 30-28 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange.
Ebbecke emerged just the fourth Trojan to record at least 10 blocks in a match. MOC recorded 16.5 team blocks -- the fifth-highest, single-match total in school history.
The Trojans (5-11 overall) trailed Missouri Valley 9-8 before Jackson Metichecchia's service ace turned the tide. Ebbecke followed with a kill and MOC capitalized on attack errors to pull away for the opening-set win.
The lead changed hands five times in the closing stages of set before Miracle and Rivero put the Trojans up 2-0 with back-to-back kills. Kills by Miracle and Ebbecke capped a five-point run to end the decisive third set.
Lukas Hoelzl and Alex Vazquez finished with eight kills apiece for Mount Olive, while Quaid Martin (22) and Jackson Metichecchia (20) combined for 42 assists against Hannibal-LaGrange. Defensively, Arnold had 12 digs and Vazquez finished with five blocks. Miracle and Jack Tutty added four blocks apiece.
MOC concluded its road swing at Lewis University on Tuesday. The Trojans return home Saturday for a Conference Carolinas match against in-state archrival Lees-McRae. First serve is 3 p.m. inside Kornegay Arena.
