ROXBORO -- Senior center Adam Haggerty led three players in double figures with 24 points, and 16th-seeded Spring Creek stunned top-seeded Roxboro Community, 78-61, in opening-round action of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A boys' basketball playoffs Tuesday evening.
The Gators (11-12 overall) continue play today in the Mideast region pod at county rival Rosewood. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
Rayshawn Edwards and Tre Hammonds contributed 18 and 13 points, respectively. Logan Scott chipped in eight points.
"Obviously, (the win) is a great accomplishment, but to play and win on the road as a wild card against a number one seed is a huge accomplishment," said Spring Creek head coach Taylor Jones. "I have been saying that we are finally starting to understand how good we can be. We have to make a quick turnaround and play tomorrow at Rosewood.
"This will be our toughest test of the year."
The Eagles (11-10) launched their postseason with a resounding, double-digit victory over Lakewood on Monday.
