Rosewood finishes 1-1

* Nick Quillen established a phenomenal program record with his 100th career pin, and Rosewood broke its previous season victory total during a tri-meet against Southern Nash and Wilson Fike on Wednesday evening.

The Eagles soared to 35-11 overall with a 42-36 decision over Southern Nash and a 36-30 loss to the Golden Demons. Coach Bill Edmundson's squad surpassed the school record of 34 dual-team wins, which was set by last year's squad.

Quillen stuck Fike's Quamel Pierce in just 28 seconds, but needed 93 seconds to pin the Firebirds' Joseph Johnston in a pair of 126-pound bouts. The junior, a state runner-up in 2011, ran his record to 47-0 this season.

Before the record-setting night occurred, Rosewood recognized three seniors -- 152-pounder Quadre Ayers, 113-pounder Chris Lane and co-captain Taylor McGill. McGill pinned both of his opponents and improved to 48-1 for the season. Lane also went 2-0, while Ayers lost his lone match.

Angel Jaramillo and heavyweight Jacob Guthrie each finished the night 2-0. Teammates Jacob Holliday, Kaleb Smith and Joshua Drew collected one win apiece.

Eastern Wayne 72, Southern Wayne 12

* Eastern Wayne emerged victorious in five of seven contested matches, and dispatched county rival Southern Wayne, 72-12, in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference battle.

Brice Heller (106), Warren Kirkwood (120), Victor Rodriguez (126), Craig Smith (138) and Julian Bruton (145) each pinned their respective opponent. Bruton's match lasted just 17 seconds, while Kirkwood needed just 33 seconds to claim his 24th victory of the season.

Romario Torres, Jason Reid, Austin Helm, Quadrick Williams, Rashaun Pridgen, Jamel Barrett and Andre Smith each received a forfeit for the Warriors.

The Saints' 220-pounder Bobby Stocks and heavyweight Deonta Hayes pinned their respective opponents.

Eastern Wayne (15-15 overall) improved to 2-2 against ECC opposition this season. Southern Wayne remained winless in four league outings.
