Girls' basketball

C.B. Aycock 46, Southern Wayne 28

* PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock stayed perfect in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with a 46-28 win over Southern Wayne on Tuesday night.

The Golden Falcons pulled away by outscoring the Saints 17-5 in the second quarter. Imari Howell led Aycock with 16 points and seven rebounds. Myleah Jones supplied 10 points and nine rebounds. Ivy Hartzell grabbed 12 rebounds.

"Tonight I thought we passed the ball well and I thought we shot the ball well," Golden Falcons' head coach Laura Romo said. "We started to throw the ball inside in the second quarter and started getting good looks."

Sharonne Maultsby scored 11 points for the Saints and Jane Hamilton had 10.

Aycock (10-4 overall, 6-0 ECC) visits Triton on Friday, while Southern Wayne (1-16, 0-6) entertains Triton on Jan. 24.

Goldbsoro 57, Rosewood 34

* Goldsboro overcame a hot start by Rosewood and rallied in the second half for a 57-34 win on Tuesday night. The victory kept the Cougars' perfect Carolina 1-A Conference record intact at 3-0.

Rosewood opened the game with a flury on the offensive end that included two 3-point baskets that kept the game within reach, but Goldsboro answered the call and picked up the pace defensively to stifle the Eagles the rest of the way.

Alexus Myles paced the Cougars (13-2 overall) with 16 points. Kasheika Wallace added 11 points. Shatoria Exum and Talaya Lassiter each tallied nine points in the win.

Alicia Burns led the Eagles with 12 points. Holly Heath finished with eight points for Rosewood (3-11, 1-2).

Rosewood will visit North Duplin on Friday night, while Goldsboro will play host to Spring Creek on the same evening.

North Lenoir 39, Eastern Wayne 38

* LaGRANGE -- Deshona Cox hit her second game-winning basket of the season as North Lenoir rallied past Eastern Wayne 39-38 on Tuesday night.

Tianna Christopher led the Warriors with nine points. Elondia Grant added seven points.

Tyra Spencer paced the North Lenoir offense with 10 points.

Eastern Wayne (7-10 overall, 3-3 ECC) travels to South Johnston on Friday.

Crossroads Christian 49,

Wayne Christian 39

* Wayne Christian failed to get key baskets down the stretch of a 49-39 loss to Crossroads Christian on Tuesday night.

Courtney Barrow paced the Eagles with 16 points and eight rebounds. Katie Isenhower added a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Carly Hightower finished with 10 points.

Wayne Christian will host Northwood Temple on Friday.

Trinity Christian 28, Faith Christian 24

* GREENVILLE -- Faith Christian never got its offense going in a 28-24 loss to Trinity Christian on Tuesday night.

Christina Powell and Abigail Pierce led the Conquerors with six points apiece.

Faith Christian (3-7 overall) plays host to Falls Road on Friday night.

Boys' basketball

Eastern Wayne 67, North Lenoir 66

* LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir missed a potential game-tying free throw in the final seconds and Eastern Wayne held on for a 67-66 win on Tuesday night in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference basketball action.

Jaquaz Jones paced the Hawks with 19 points and Jaquan Williams added 13.

Lee Atkinson and Tyrik Kornegay each finished with 19 points to lead the Warriors' offense. Josiah Davis added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Eastern Wayne (7-9 overall, 4-2 ECC) travels to South Johnston on Friday night.

Ayden-Grifton 78, Spring Creek 56

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Ayden-Grifton easily dispatched Spring Creek 78-56 in Carolina 1-A Conference action on Tuesday night.

Adam Haggerty led the Gators with 20 points and seven rebounds. Rashawn Edwards added 16 points and seven boards. James Loften finished with 12 points.

Spring Creek (6-7 overall, 1-2 ECC) visits Goldsboro on Friday.

Wayne Christian 67, Crossroads Christian 30

* Wayne Christian jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 67-30 win over Crossroads Christian on Tuesday night.

Seth Slusher emerged the leading scorer for the Eagles with 18 points. Chase Darden finished with 11 points and five assists in the win. Dylan Smith added seven points.

Wayne Christian will host Northwood Temple on Friday.

Goldbsoro Heat 69, North Wake 63

* The Goldsboro Heat home school basketball team earned a 69-63 decision over North Wake on Tuesday night.

Blake Polland led the Heat with 25 points and seven rebounds. Justin Spears finished wirh 17 points and teammate Harrison Farley added 14 points in the win.

Goldsboro entertains Wake Forest Home Schools on Jan. 24.

Trinity Christian 73, Faith Christian 48

* GREENVILLE -- Faith Christian never found an answer for the Trinity Christian offense in a 73-48 defeat on Tuesday night.

Aaron Hill led the Conquerors with 13 points. Michael Clark added 11 points in the loss.

Faith Christian (8-3 overall) plays host to Falls Road Christian on Friday.

JV sports

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 68, Rosewood 25 -- Joe Baker led the way for the Cougars with 16 points. Jaylen Moore added 14 and Rashean Artis added 11 in the win. Goldsboro plays host to Spring Creek on Friday.

* Girls' basketball: Trinity Christian 27, Faith Christian 14 -- Tiffany Hopkins led the Conquerors with eight points in the loss. Faith Christian will host Falls Road on Friday.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro Heat 31, North Wake 29 -- The Goldsboro Heat home school team held on for a 31-29 overtime win on Tuesday afternoon. Thomas Vermillion and Gavin Portela each finished with 12 points in the win. The victory was the first of the season for the Heat.

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day School 49, Epiphany 42 -- Cory Carpenter led the Chargers with 11 points. Tony Townsend added 10 points and Jacob Norris finished with eight. Wayne Country Day improved to 11-0 on the season.
