Girls' basketball
Goldsboro 49, Southern Wayne 25
* Goldsboro trudged through the first half and finally got its offense going in a 49-25 victory over Southern Wayne on Tuesday evening.
Shatoria Exum led the Cougars with 16 points. Kasheika Wallace had 13 points and seven rebounds.
"We finally started to execute in the second half," Goldsboro head coach LaTina Bullock said. "Shatoria is that little spark plug for us out there on the court. She really stepped up tonight."
Danielle Carlton scored 10 points for the Saints.
Southern Wayne (1-9) visits Eastern Wayne on Jan. 3. The Cougars (10-2) travel to North Duplin on Jan. 6.
Union 32, North Duplin 25
* CALYSPO -- North Duplin couldn't quite erase a nine-point halftime deficit in a 32-25 loss to visiting Union on Tuesday evening.
The Rebels trailed 16-7 at the half and were unable to close the gap. Danielle Henrichs paced North Duplin with eight points. Jessica Jones had seven points.
North Duplin (2-9) visits James Kenan on Thursday.
Boys' basketball
North Duplin 72, Union 53
* CALYPSO -- Devin Oliver poured in 27 points to lead North Duplin to a 72-53 win over Union on Tuesday night.
Breyon Johnson contributed 17 points for the Rebels and James Kornegay had 13 points.
North Duplin outscored Union 40-25 in the second half. The Rebels (3-5) travel to James Kenan on Thursday.
Princeton 48, Edenton Holmes 46
* ROBERSONVILLE -- C.J. Jefferys scored at the buzzer to give Princeton a 48-46 victory over Edenton Holmes on the first day of the South Creek Christmas Tournament.
The Bulldogs (6-6) face South Creek at 8:30 p.m. tonight.
A.J. Smith led Princeton with 15 points and Jefferys had 13.
Wayne Country Day 71, Dayspring 48
ASHEVILLE -- Wayne Country Day got 22 points from Deshar Thomas in a 71-48 win over Dayspring Academy on Tuesday at the Carolina Day Christmas Classic.
Hil Tanner added 18 points in the win. Brandon McCarter finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Wayne Country Day improved to 5-4 overall.
