Wayne Christian struggled to communicate defensively throughout the first half and was forced to reap the consequences.
The Eagles surrendered four goals in the opening 40 minutes of a 5-1 loss to visiting Carolina Christian 1-A Conference foe Grace Christian on Thursday evening.
Freshman Christian Bosco scored twice for Grace in the first half. Michael Taylor and Pearson Wynands also found the back of the net as the visitors built a 4-0 lead by halftime.
"They've got a good team," said Wayne Christian head coach Daryl Anderson. "They're very well controlled. They move the ball well and they've got a lot of speed. We weren't communicating. That's all there is to it."
Tanner Bosco extended Grace's lead to 5-0 in the second half.
Connor Jones scored the Eagles' only goal late in the second half. Wayne Christian (4-8-2 overall) finished with just five shots on goal and spent the majority of the evening defending its end of the field.
"It's hard for transition because everybody gets sucked down into the defense," said Anderson. "It's really hard when you've got to travel three-fourths of the field to try to score."
WCS goalies Jamie Tucker and Tanner Rose combined for seven saves.
