Girls' tennis

Goldsboro 7, Ayden-Grifton 2

* Goldsboro swept all six singles matches and picked up a 7-2 victory over defending Carolina 1-A Conference champion Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday afternoon.

Elisa Briggs, Jessica Calvert, Mackenzie Malham, Cassidy Morris, Hunter Houtzer and Davis Houtzer each collected a singles win. The team of Hunter Houtzer and Randa Boykin were also victorious at No. 3 singles.

The Cougars visit Rosewood on Thursday.

Eastern Wayne 9, North Lenoir 0

* LaGRANGE -- Eastern Wayne had little trouble with Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir in a 9-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Grace Delbridge, Savannah Sutton, Jackie Johnson, Kristina Childre and Blake Govan each collected a singles win. McKenna Dove was victorious at No. 6 singles as the Hawks were forced to forfeit without a No. 6 singles player.

The doubles of Sutton-Johnson and Delbridge-Govan were also victorious.

North Lenoir forfeited at No. 3 doubles.

The Warriors (6-2 overall, 5-1 ECC) travel to Rocky Mount today.

Wayne Country Day 6, Wayne Christian 3

* Wayne Country Day turned back county foe Wayne Christian 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Wayne Community College.

Gianna Democko, Sarah Best, Mack Thompson, Katherine Roethling, Mollie Catherine McDonald and Meredith Roethling all picked up a singles victory for the Chargers.

The doubles teams of Taylor Willman-Elizabeth Sutton, Ally Willman-Bryanna Means and Abigail Easom-Miranda Taylor were winners for the Eagles.

Spring Creek 9, North Duplin 0

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek picked up its second Carolina 1-A Conference win of the season with a 9-0 rout of North Duplin on Tuesday afternoon.

Emily Daniel, Heather Frey, Katlyn Casey, Collen Finlay, Jordan Cook and Daysi Ramirez each recorded a singles win. The doubles teams of Daniel/Frey, Casey/Cook and Finlay/Carmack were also victorious.

The Gators (3-0 overall, 2-0 CC) entertain Charles B. Aycock today.

Volleyball

Rosewood 3, Ayden-Grifton 1

* AYDEN -- Rosewood opened Carolina 1-A Conference play with a 25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 25-11 win at Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday evening.

Stephanie Hall handed out 12 assists for the Eagles and Laura Vinson contributed eight kills, five digs and two aces. Anna Ingram provided eight kills and five blocks while Rachyle McAlduff had 13 assists and four aces.

The Eagles (7-2 overall, 1-0 CC) play host to Goldsboro on Thursday.

Princeton 3, Spring Creek 0

* PRINCETON -- Princeton began the Carolina 1-A Conference portion of its schedule in convincing fashion with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-9 victory over Spring Creek on Tuesday evening.

Nicole Melvin led the Bulldogs with seven kills and five aces. Savanna Massengill provided six kills and Katlyn Peedin added six digs. Megan Gerrell, Hannah Woodard and Amber Hill each had three kills.

Sarah Ford handed out seven assists for the Gators. Kelsey Rogers tallied four kills and two blocks.

Princeton travels to Charles B. Aycock today, while Spring Creek plays host to Ayden-Grifton on Thursday.

North Duplin 3, Goldsboro 1

* CALYPSO -- Goldsboro won the opening set, but could not sustain its momentum in 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-22 loss at Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Duplin on Tuesday evening.

Brandy Johnson contributed 10 kills and five blocks for the Cougars. Kasheika Wallace supplied 10 aces, five kills and four blocks. Ana Harris added seven blocks.

Goldsboro (4-5 overall, 0-1) continues conference play at Rosewood on Thursday.

Berean 3, Faith Christian 0

* With four players battling sickness, Faith Christian couldn't slow down visiting Berean Christian in a 25-15, 25-17, 25-12 loss on Tuesday evening.

Elizabethe Weeks supplied three aces for the Conquerors. Kristina Powell distributed eight assists and Katie Watson, Abigail Pierce and Hannah Stocks each had two kills.

Faith (1-2 overall) entertains Cornerstone on Thursday.

Girls' golf

Eagles prevail

* SELMA -- Jennifer Liles carded a nine-hole round of 51 to lead Rosewood to a victory in a four-team match on Tuesday afternoon at Cardinal Country Club.

The Eagles compiled a team score of 166. Princeton finished second with 172 and Wilson Beddingfield was third at 174. North Johnston completed the team scoring at 178. Each member of Rosewood's team has qualified for the regionals which are held in October.

The Eagles return to action Thursday at Reedy Creek in Four Oaks.

Aycock sinks Fike

* Tara Simmons flexed her muscles for 18 holes and shot a 2-under par 70 in Charles B. Aycock's 264-353 conquest of Wilson Fike on the Lane Tree Golf Course links Tuesday afternoon.

"She just missed shooting in the 60s by 12 inches here, five inches there and three inches over there," said Golden Falcons head coach Roger Rhodes. "I keep telling her sooner or later they are going to fall. I am waiting for that day just for her."

Jessie Stewart added a 90 for Aycock, improved to 7-0 overall this season. Madison Aycock completed the Golden Falcons' three-player total of 104. Teammates Jordyn Howell and Kristen Denning also participated in the dual meet.

Sidney Hodge led Fike with a 111.

Walnut Creek LGA

* Joyce Reynolds and Linda Cannon shared low putts during weekly tournament play on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.

Hiromi Sueki and Dot Julian seized low gross and low net, respectively.

JV sports

* Volleyball: C.B. Aycock d. Eastern Wayne 23-25, 25-17, 26-24 -- Courtney Warner led the Golden Falcons with five kills. C.B. Aycock improved to 2-6 overall on the season.

* Volleyball: Ayden Grifton d. Rosewood 25-21, 15-25, 25-15 -- Ashlynn Spell supplied seven digs for the Eagles. Emily Brock had six assists and Danielle Fail added four aces.

* Volleyball: Princeton d. Spring Creek 25-9, 25-7 -- The Bulldogs visit Charles B. Aycock today.

* Volleyball: Goldsboro d. North Duplin 25-23, 16-25, 25-14 -- Bailee Ellis served 10 aces for the Cougars. Goldsboro (3-3) visits Rosewood on Thursday.
