Greene Central 28,

C.B. Aycock 13

* SNOW HILL -- Playing two games against two physical opponents proved to be too much for Charles B. Aycock to handle.

Just three days after suffering a defeat to Wilson Hunt, the Golden Falcons dropped a 28-13 decision to Greene Central on Friday night. The Rams defense forced four turnovers and scored two touchdowns in the win.

"I thought our defense was very good throughout the game," Greene Central head coach Ken Grantham said. "In the first half we built a little bit of a lead and we were able to set the tone."

Already ahead 6-0 in the second quarter, the Rams defense stepped up and added to the advantage. Kenzie Phillips returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown and less than a minute later, Tevin Bates scored on a 30-yard interception return.

C.B. Aycock battled back in the second half. Chris Mickens closed the third quarter with a 20-yard touchdown run and Austin Snowden took the Golden Falcons' first possession of the fourth quarter into the end zone on a 27-yard scamper.

Greene Central put the game on ice in the final minute when Rashad Yelverton broke free for a seven-yard touchdown run. Yelverton led all rushers with 118 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. Greene Central did not complete a pass in the game.

Snowden paced the Golden Falcons offense with 90 yards on 17 totes and one score. Cody Garris and Mickens each added 38 yards on the ground.

C.B. Aycock (1-2 overall) will travel to county rival Goldsboro on Sept. 9. Greene Central (2-1 overall) will host Eastern Wayne next week.

Princeton 34, Dixon 0

* HOLLY RIDGE -- An early defensive stop propelled Princeton past Dixon 34-0 on Friday night.

The Bulldogs drove the ball to the Princeton 1-yard line on the opening possession of the game, but failed to score when Forest Stewart recovered a fumble and returned it to midfield.

"That was a big moment in the game to come up with that ball and not let them score," Princeton head coach Russell Williamson said. "Once we got the ball and got moving, it seemed like we really got our legs under us."

Princeton built a 20-0 lead at the half on two rushing touchdowns by quarterback Brad Williamson and one by tailback Javontae Davis. Both players found the end zone once in the second half to complete the Dawgs' total.

Williamson finished with 65 yards on the ground and 146 through the air. Davis toted the ball 12 times for 86 yards and caught three passes for an additional 35 yards. Austin Hinton led Princeton in receiving with two catches for 65 yards.

Princeton (1-2 overall) travels to North Johnston on Sept. 9.

South Lenoir 26,

Eastern Wayne 18, OT

* DEEP RUN -- South Lenoir took the opening possession of overtime and after a penalty, drove 20 yards for a touchdown to hold off Eastern Wayne 26-18 on Friday night.

Garrett Blackburn punched in the game-winning score from five yards out. K'Hadree Hooker converted the two-point run to complete a perfect possession.

Eastern Wayne got a chance to tie the score, but a sack led to a fumble on the first play of the Warriors' possession and ended the contest.

Eastern Wayne recorded more total yards (290-250) and more first downs (14-10) than the blue Devils in the defeat. Javon Darden paced the Warriors' offense with 143 yards on the ground and one touchdown. Avner Clark completed five passes for 65 yards and one score.

Eastern Wayne (0-3 overall) travels to Greene Central on Sept. 9.

East Duplin 24,

James Kenan 3

* BEULAVILLE -- East Duplin remained unbeaten on the season with a 24-3 win over James Kenan on Friday night.

The Panthers got on the board with a 29-yard field goal by Zack Parker in the final minute of the first quarter and tacked on 14 points in the second period. The big play of the game for the home squad was an 82-yard touchdown pass from Derrick Conter to John Moore.

James Kenan drew within 17-3 in the third period on a 28-yard field goal, but would pull no closer.

Devon Best led the Tigers with 54 yards on 10 carries. Marcelias Sutton added 33 yards on 18 totes. Dominique Barnes, filling in for injured quarterback Parker Jones, completed one pass for 13 yards.

James Kenan (0-3 overall) will enjoy a week off before opening Tri-County 1-A Conference play at Union on Sept. 16.

Kinston 43, North Lenoir 7

* KINSTON -- North Lenoir failed to slow down the potent Kinston rushing attack in a 43-7 defeat on Friday night.

The Vikings racked up 600 yards of total offense in the win and controlled the time of possession throughout the contest.

Will Deters put Kinston on the board with a 29-yard field goal that capped the team's opening drive. On the Vikings' next possession, Shaheed Swinson broke free for a 75-yard scoring scamper to make the score 9-0.

North Lenoir scored its only points of the night on the ensuing kickoff when Anthony Miller returned the kick 75 yards to pay dirt. Caleb Baird's extra point pulled the Hawks close, 9-7, but the Vikings reeled off 34 unanswered points.

Miller led North Lenoir's offense with 37 yards on the ground and one reception for eight yards. Quarterback Jaquan Williams completed two throws for 11 yards on four attempts.

North Lenoir (0-3 overall) plays host to county rival South Lenoir on Sept. 9.
