Girls' tennis

Eastern Wayne 9, Southern Wayne 0

* Four-time defending Eastern Carolna 3-A Conference champion Eastern Wayne rolled past county rival Southern Wayne, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon.

Grace Delbridge, Savannah Sutton, Jackie Johnson, Kristina Childre, Blake Govan and McKenna Dove each claimed a straight-set victory in singles. Delbridge, Sutton and Govan prevailed by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.

Sutton-Johnson, Delbridge-Govan and Childre-Dove completed the sweep in doubles.

The Warriors (4-1 overall, 3-0 ECC) put their 45-match conference win streak on the line Tuesday at archrival Charles B. Aycock. First serve is 4 p.m. in Pikeville.

C.B. Aycock 9, Cleveland 0

* CLAYTON -- C.B. Aycock kept its undefeated season intact with a 9-0 romp over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Cleveland on Thursday afternoon.

Brooke Barfield, Ashton Walker, Katie Gurley, Brittany Parrish, Misty Edwards and Caroline Bone each won their respective singles match for the Golden Falcons.

The pairs of Barfield-Walker, Gurley-Edwards and Parrish-Bone each claimed a point in doubles play.

C.B. Aycock (8-0 overall, 4-0 ECC) plays host to Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.

Boys' soccer

Hobbton 6, Rosewood 0

* NEWTON GROVE -- Rosewood's scoreless drought continued for a fourth consecutive game in a 6-0 loss to Hobbton on Thursday night.

The Wildcats outshot the Eagles 35-3 on the night.

Rosewood (0-1-3 overall) plays host to North Johnston on Sept. 7

Volleyball

Hilltop Christian 3, Faith Christian 0

* Faith Christian could not get its offense going in a 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 loss to Hilltop Christian on Thursday night.

Elizabeth Weeks led the Conquerors with four aces and four kills. Hannah Stocks added four kills and three assists. Christina Powell finished with four assists.

Faith Christian (0-1 overall) plays host to Trinity of Greenville on Tuesday.

Wayne Country Day 3,

Upper Room Academy 0

* Wayne Country Day got its third win of the season with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-19 victory over Upper Room Academy on Thursday night.

Rachel Uzzell dished out nine assists and tallied three digs. Sarah Crooks finished with seven kills and three service aces. Jessica Zhou notched 10 digs and eight assists.

Wayne Country Day (3-5 overall) entertains Cape Fear Christian on Sept. 6.

JV sports

* Football: Franklinton 38, Goldsboro 18 -- James Clyde provided the game's highlight play with an 80-yard kickoff return for the Cougars. Talyn Davis and Travis Sauls paced the Goldsboro defense with eight tackle apiece.

The Cougars continue non-conference play next Thursday at C.B. Aycock. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Hardy Talton Stadium in Pikeville.
