Goldsboro spikers take Clinton

Volleyball

Goldsboro 3, Clinton 1

* Goldsboro bounced back from a slow start for a 15-25, 25-11, 25-16, 25-19 non-conference win at home over Clinton on Wednesday evening.

Brandy Johnson pounded out 10 kills for the Cougars and Ana Harris distributed eight assists. Yusely Lures contributed six service aces and Kasheika Wallace provided five aces.

Goldsboro (2-4 overall) entertains Rocky Mount Prep on Tuesday.

Lakewood 3, North Duplin 1

* SALEMBURG -- North Duplin emerged victorious in the opening set, but Lakewood rebounded for a 22-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 non-conference win Wednesday afternoon.

"Lakewood is a tough team and you have to be on your 'A' game when you play them," said first-year Rebels head coach Kelly Brown. "We had 18 missed serves. You can't win if you can't serve."

Danielle Hinrichs led North Duplin's offense with 11 kills. Senior middle hitter Tearra Ammons provided four kills and three blocks. Ansley Hill recorded two blocks.

Skylar McCarty led the defense with six digs.

North Duplin fell to 4-3 overall this season.

Boys' soccer

Union 2, Spring Creek

* CLINTON -- Spring Creek launched its 2011 season with a 2-1, non-conference loss to Union on Wednesday evening.

Otto Binar tallied the Gators' lone goal off Antonio Avila's assist.

Spring Creek (0-1-0 overall) entertains Hobbton on Sept. 6. Kickoff is 5 p.m. at "The Swamp."

JV sports

* Volleyball: Rosewood d. Southern Wayne 25-7, 22-25, 25-16 -- Ashley Thornton provided three service aces for the Eagles. Emily Brock had three assists and one dig. Rosewood (6-1 overall) plays host to Wilson Fike on Sept. 6.

* Volleyball: Clinton d. Goldsboro 25-21, 25-15 -- The Cougars fell to 2-3.
