Boys' soccer

Wayne Country Day 4, Wayne Christian 4

* County rivals Wayne Country Day and Wayne Christian battled to a 4-4, non-conference draw on a muggy Thursday evening.

Hil Tanner collected all four goals for the Chargers.

Cody Neal dished out two assists, while Trent Proimos had one assist.

"Very suspenseful and intense," said first-year WCDS head coach Scott Summers. "One of those games when everyone is on the edge of their seat. (The result) could have gone either way. We missed many opportunities, but we gave up several silly goals.

"We are still coming together as a team."

Chase Darden notched all four goals for Wayne Christian.

Baron Wise, Victor Kokiko, Chris Smith and Seth Slusher logged one assist apiece.

Keepers David Swets and Jamie Tucker each recorded three saves between the posts for the Eagles. Chargers goalie Zack Brewer-Kirby had four saves.

Wayne Country Day exited 0-1-3 overall, while Wayne Christian is 0-2-1.

Princeton 2, Midway 2

* SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Princeton battled Midway to a 2-2 draw in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

Vicente Mendez and Trevor Haines each logged a goal for the Dawgs.

Oliver Balderas and Ethan Anderson each had an assist.

Princeton (0-3-1 overall) travels to North Johnston on Aug. 31.

Volleyball

Wayne Christian 3, Wayne Country Day 0

* Wayne Christian swept county rival Wayne Country Day 25-11, 25-17 and 25-19 on Thursday afternoon.

Eagles' senior Haley Greenwood supplied 10 aces and eight digs. Jessica Swets supplied 12 kills and Britney O'Hara added eight kills, six digs and four aces. Carly Hightower had six aces. Katie Isenhower handed out 23 assists and Katie Caviness pitched in seven digs and five kills.

Wayne Christian visits Rosewood on Tuesday.

Southern Wayne 3, Spring Creek 1

* DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne earned a 19-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 non-conference win over visiting Spring Creek on Thursday.

Sarah Ford paced the Gators with eight assists, five kills and three aces. Kelsey Rogers supplied five kills and four aces. Diana Carreno had five assists and two aces.

Spring Creek (1-2 overall) travels to Eastern Wayne on Monday, while Southern Wayne plays host to Rosewood.

Eastern Wayne 3, Goldsboro 2

* Eastern Wayne hung on for a 25-23, 14-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-7 non-conference win over Goldsboro on Thursday evening in New Hope.

Brandy Johnson supplied seven kills and five aces for the Cougars. Kashieka Wallace added six kills and five aces. Yusely Lares had six aces and Ana Harris contributed five kills.

Freshman hitter Rachel McCollum logged a double-double -- 10 service aces, 11 kills -- for the Warriors. Allyson Newsome provided 10 kills, while Amanda Hall provided two kills and five digs.

Goldsboro (1-4 overall) plays host to Clinton on Monday while Eastern Wayne (2-2) entertains Spring Creek.

C.B. Aycock 3, Wilson Hunt 0

* WILSON -- C.B. Aycock remained unbeaten with a 25-11, 25-8 and 25-17 non-conference victory at Wilson Hunt on Thursday evening.

Meredith Burroughs pounded out 11 kills for the Golden Falcons. Madison Mercer provided nine kills and six aces. Emily Martin had seven aces.

C.B. Aycock dropped Greene Central for the second time this season with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-17 win on Wednesday afternoon.

Burroughs led the Golden Falcons with 10 kills. Connor Davis added eight kills.

Rachel Jordan and Emily Martin each finished with six aces.

Aycock (4-0 overall) entertains Triton on Tuesday.

North Duplin 3, Hobbton 0

* NEWTON GROVE -- North Duplin picked up a 25-21, 25-19 and 25-13 win at Hobbton on Thursday afternoon.

Skylar McCarty supplied seven aces, four digs and three kills for the Rebels. Danielle Hinrichs added four aces and four kills. Tearra Ammons provided six kills and four blocks.

North Duplin visits Union on Monday.

Princeton 3, Midway 1

* PRINCETON -- Hannah Woodard and Nicole Melvin cranked out nine kills apiece in Princeton's 23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-10 triumph over Midway on Thursday afternoon.

Woodard served six aces. Savanna Massengill contributed six kills and four blocks. Megan Gerrell had five kills and three aces. Amber Hill registered four kills and four blocks.

The teams meet again Monday at Spivey's Corner.

Girls' tennis

C.B. Aycock 9, North Lenoir 0

* LaGRANGE -- Charles B. Aycock dominated Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir 9-0 on Thursday.

Brooke Barfield, Ashton Walker, Katie Gurley, Brittany Parrish, Misty Edwards and Caroline Bone each recorded a singles victory. The doubles teams of Gurley-Edwards, Parrish-Bone and Tiffany Godwin-Rachel Jackson were also victorious.

The Golden Falcons (6-0, 2-0 ECC) entertain South Johnston on Tuesday.

Eastern Wayne 9, Cleveland 0

* Eastern Wayne cruised to a 9-0 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent Cleveland on Thursday in New Hope.

Grace Delbridge, Jackie Johnson, Savannah Sutton, Kristina Childre, Blake Govan and McKenna Dove all collected singles wins for the Warriors. The doubles teams of Johnson-Sutton, Delbridge-Govan and Dove-Cailey Solomon also prevailed.

Eastern Wayne (3-1, 2-0 ECC) entertains Rocky Mount on Tuesday.

JV sports

* Boys' soccer: Wayne Country Day 1, Wayne Christian 0 -- Blaine Creger notched the game-winning goal off Preston Edwards' assist. The Chargers improved to 2-0-0 overall.

* Volleyball: Southern Wayne d. Spring Creek 14-25, 25-20, 25-23 -- Corrie Archer contributed three aces for the Gators.

* Volleyball: Wilson Hunt d. C.B. Aycock 22-25, 25-15, 25-17 -- Courtney Warner finished with six kills for the Golden Falcons.

* Volleyball: C.B. Aycock d. Greene Central 25-21, 17-25, 25-10 -- Courntey Warner paced the Golden Falcons with six kills. C.B. Aycock improved to 1-2 overall.

* Volleyball: Eastern Wayne d. Goldsboro 25-16, 25-13 -- The Cougars fell to 2-2.
