SEVEN SPRINGS -- Wayne South consistently put the ball in play.

Spring Creek struggled to make routine plays.

South took advantage of 10 errors and cruised to a 13-2, Junior American Legion victory on Thursday evening.

Jacob Sasser's bases-loaded walk in the top of the first inning put Wayne South in front 1-0. Jamie Dove's sacrifice fly and a Spring Creek error increased the lead to 3-0. Kevin Williams added an RBI single in the top of the second.

Spring Creek got two runs back on Ian Ladd's RBI groundout and Allen Coor's RBI single in the bottom of the second.

South capitalized on four Spring Creek errors in the fifth inning to score four runs on just one hit.

"It should have probably a two or three-run ballgame," said Spring Creek head coach Heath Whitfield. "You've got to make routine plays against a good ballclub and we sure as heck didn't do it. We kicked it around like crazy."

Spring Creek committed three more errors in the seventh inning. Taylor Raynor scored on an error and Clayton Cashwell's two-run double pushed the margin to 11-2. Ashton Cox supplied an RBI groundout and Cashwell scored on an error.

Williams led Wayne South with four hits and an RBI. Cashwell (two RBI) and Dove (RBI) both had two hits.

"I thought we had a good approach at the plate," said Wayne South head coach T.J. Hinson. "I hate to see Spring Creek make that many errors, but our guys did a good job of putting the ball in play."

Jamar Holmes allowed two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks in five innings to earn the win on the mound.

Coor finished with three hits and an RBI for Spring Creek. Zack Harrell and Chris Nichols both contributed two hits.

Wayne South (10-5 overall) visits Wayne West today. Spring Creek travels to Wilson on Saturday.
