Wayne North cruises past C.B. Aycock

Wayne North, for the second time in a week, erupted for early runs against county rival Charles B. Aycock in Junior Legion baseball action.

North cruised to its second victory over Aycock on Monday night.

Jake May posted a complete game on the pitcher's mound and North prevailed 9-1 behind some heavy hitting and a variety of mental mistakes by the visitors.

"I thought we came out in the right mindset and were aggressive early," said Wayne North coach Tyler Ham. "Only having played six games, any win is a good win for us right now."

The home team got on the board in the first inning with three runs.

Jake May was hit by a pitch, Jeremy Lancaster drew a walk and Ryan Faucett delivered an RBI single. Lancaster scored on an error and Faucette came around when Nolan James delivered a base hit.

C.B. Aycock tried to get back in the ballgame in the top of the second inning. Rider Gardner singled, advanced on a base hit by Noah West and scored on a base knock by Logan Brown.

"We had same chances early in the game to maybe sneak a few more runs across and change the momentum," said C.B. Aycock head coach Nelson Cunningham. "Unfortunately, we failed to put the ball in play at some key times and couldn't score."

Wayne North (6-0 overall) added a run in the third inning and broke the game open with three insurance runs in the fourth frame.

Wesley Stewart was hit by a pitch, May walked and Lancaster singled to load the bases. Tyler Huetter plated one run with a productive groundout. Faucette reached on an error in front of RBI base hits from Josh Dixon and James to make the game 7-1.

Faucette added a solo home run in the sixth. James reached on a fielder's choice, advanced on a hit by Tyler Ware and scored on Stewart's base hit.

"We were able to string some hits together and get out in front early," said Ham. "That allowed Jake (May) to settle down and just pitch a good solid ballgame."

May went seven innings and struck out seven batters to earn the win. Bobby Hampton took the loss for C.B. Aycock.

Wayne North travels to Wayne South on Wednesday, while Aycock (6-3) plays host to Cleveland for a doubleheader today.
