SNOW HILL -- Eastern Wayne sophomore Chaz Fitzpatrick lost just two games and emerged the singles champion in the season-ending, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference boys' tennis tournament contested at the Snow Hill Tennix Complex.
Fitzpatrick, the top seed, posted shutouts over South Johnston's Ryan Dorman and Charles B. Aycock's Michael Kearney. Fitzpatrick defeated the Golden Falcons' Will Hoff 6-1, 6-1 in the finals and clinched the No. 1 seed for the N.C. High School Athletic Association eastern regional.
Hoff, the No. 2 seed, advanced to the regional along with Kearney and Triton's Parker Tart.
In doubles, Southern Wayne's top-seeded tandem of Brandon Outlaw-Alan Nunez captured the ECC crown with 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 triumph over Aycock's Bradley Wilson-Austin Walker. Outlaw-Nunez survived a semifinal-round scare and rebounded for a three-set victory over Eastern Wayne's duo of Steven Taylor-Mitchell Kaspar.
Taylor-Kaspar and North Lenoir's tandem of Greg Goodson-Jay Horne also qualified for the regional.
Charles B. Aycock (16-1 overall) and Eastern Wayne (11-3) clinched the league's bids to the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs. Opening-round play is the first week of May.
