PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock proved too tough to defend once again and swept the regular-season series from archrival Eastern Wayne with a 4-1 win at Hardy Talton Stadium on Thursday night.
Cheyenne Warrick tallied three goals and led a second-half rally for the Golden Falcons, who put the finishing touches on their first-ever Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference soccer championship in program history.
"We told Cheyenne that Eastern Wayne was going to try to double her to slow her down," said C.B. Aycock assistant coach Scott Summers. "The best way to beat the trap is to wait until the double team comes, pass the ball and then move toward the net to get it back when the defense reacts.
"She did a great job."
Warrick nearly got the Golden Falcons on the board in the 15th minute, but her goal was disallowed due to offsides. Two minutes later, the sophomore struck for her first goal when she belted a pass from Emily Borel into the net.
Eastern Wayne adjusted its defense and kept Warrick in check the rest of the first half. Aycock led 1-0 at intermission.
Miller Delbridge tied the game for the Warriors when she sent a free kick over the Golden Falcon defense and into the net in the 47th minute.
"I felt like we really played 40 good minutes of soccer tonight," said Eastern Wayne head coach Jorg Wagner. "We tied it up in the second half and we had some other good opportunities, but it just didn't go our way."
Warrick put the home team ahead for good in the 49th minute off an assist by Samantha Parrish. That tandem connected again in the 64th minute as Warrick completed her hat trick and essentially put the game out of reach.
Laura Dugom capped the scoring for C.B. Aycock with a goal in the 69th minute.
"We were missing one of our forwards so we had to do some lineup shuffling," said Summers. "But once we adjusted and realized where we were I think the offense really came together."
The Golden Falcons finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal.
C.B. Aycock (15-3-0 overall, 11-0-0 ECC) will enjoy a week off before taking on Southern Wayne on April 19. Eastern Wayne (7-5-0, 7-3-0) plays host to Triton on Tuesday.
