LORETTO, Pa. -- Mount Olive College's Benedikt Schirmers cranked out a career-high 16 kills in a 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 25-17 loss to St. Francis (Pa.) University on Sunday afternoon.
Schirmers posted a .440 hitting percentage in the match, and also contributed four blocks. Angel Dache added 14 kills and eight digs, and Jackson Mettechecchi dished out 53 assists.
The Trojans (11-4 overall) opened the weekend with a three-set loss at Penn State, the 2010 NCAA national runner-up. Dache had a match-high 15 kills -- 11 in the second set alone -- to pace Mount Olive, which had its eight-match win streak snapped.
MOC returns to action March 8 at Stevenson (Md.) University.

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Joey Murphy broke two of his own school records and Mount Olive set nine new marks overall during the Virginia Tech Challenge this weekend.
Murphy improved his own record in the weight throw (40 feet, 11 inches) and shot put (43-7).
Princeton High alum Decardo Cole set a record in the 200 meters (22.97 seconds) and ran the anchor leg on the 1,600-relay squad, which posted a program-best 3:33.74.
Other record setters were Cort McCombs (1,000 meters), Chris Bertrand (600), Ryan Henderson (800), Jose Palenzuela (60 hurdles) and Nick MacAdam (long jump).
The Trojan women's 1,600-meter relay qualified for the Penn Relays and narrowly missed the NCAA qualifying standard. Wislande Maxy, Cierra Butler, Kierra Butler and Alaytra Carswell comprised the team, which recorded a time of 3:59.86. By breaking the four-minute barrier, the squad earned the right to participant in one of the nation's most prestigious events in late April.
The time was a school indoor record, one of eight broken by the Trojans during the two-day competition.
