NEW YORK -- North Lenoir alum Deborah Vandiford became intrigued with the annual NYC Marathon during a trip to the Big Apple last year.
She decided she'd like to try it.
Before competing in the world's most-prestigious 26.1-mile event, the longest run Vandiford had attempted was six miles while attending UNC Chapel Hill.
On Sunday, Vandiford finished 261st in the 20-24 age group with a time of 4 hours, 29.33 minutes.
Vandiford is the daughter of Duane and Lee Vandiford of LaGrange.
