SNOW HILL -- Greene Central gave defending state 2-A champion Tarboro all it could handle, but fell just short of an upset win, 21-20, in Eastern Plains 2-A action Friday evening.

"We played our best game in three years," said Rams head coach Ken Grantham. "We took care of the ball, executed on offense and did a pretty good job on defense. It just wasn't quite enough."

Quarterback Brandon Suit plunged into the end zone late in the game for what could have been the tying score. Unfortunately, the Rams missed the extra point and sealed their fate.

"Our kicker had made 18 in a row going into last night," said Grantham. "It's unfortunate that it came down to that late in the game because he has been doing a great job for us."

Rashad Yelverton led the Greene Central offense with 99 yards rushing and one touchdown. Suit added 27 yards on the ground and 51 through the air.

Greene Central (3-5 overall, 1-2 EPC) gets a week off before playing host to Kinston on Oct. 22.
