Boys' soccer
* North Johnston 7, Goldsboro 0 -- The Cougars opened their 2010 season with road loss on Monday afternoon. "I'm very proud of my team," said second-year Goldsboro coach Tyler Gatlin. "We had no subs. I thought my boys played well. North Johnston is a really good team." Goldsboro (0-1-0 overall) entertains Corinth-Holders on Wednesday. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
Girls' tennis
* Greene Central 5, Wilson Fike 4 -- The No. 3 doubles of Laurie Sutton-Kayla Radford survived a six-game slump and helped the Rams claim a season-opening win. Sutton-Radford defeated Fike's Amber Burner-Sydney Jones 8-6 after building a 7-0 lead and losing the opening point in the 14th game. Sutton, Radford, Lauren Carraway and Brittany Colie each triumphed in singles play.
