Carmine, Price win overall male, female divisions in triathlon

Jay Carmine and Emily Price emerged the top male and female champions, respectively, in the overall division during the 25th annual Goldsboro Family Y Triathlon contested at Walnut Creek.
Carmine, from Leland, logged a first-place time of 1 hour, 23 minutes and 2 seconds. He recorded the fastest swim, third-fastest run and fourth-fastest bike ride.
Price, from Greenville, completed the triathlon in 1:41:27. She had the top bike time among females and eighth-fastest run.
Goldsboro's Whitni McConnell ended up third overall in 1:42:14. She earned the quickest time among female runners and logged the third-best time during the bike portion of the event.
Pikeville's Jon Massey claimed the 20-24 male age group title.
Age-group winners from Goldsboro were Mike McConnell (25-29 men), Lee Lamb (30-34 female), Jeremy Amy (30-34 male) and Mike Haney (60-plus men).
Goldsboro's Crandall-Stevens emerged the mixed team champion in 1:45:22. Team Zesty, also from Goldsboro, captured second place in mixed team competition. Tri-Trouble from Goldsboro was fourth overall and the lone all-female team.
Nearly 100 participants competed in the event.
