Trojan student-athletes make splash on Presidential Honor Roll

HIGH POINT -- A whopping 140 student-athletes in 17 sports at Mount Olive College earned spots on the 2010 Conference Carolinas Spring Presidential Honor Roll.

Conference Carolinas continues to emphasize "Academics and Athletics Working Together" as each school strives to grow their Presidential Honor Roll each and every year. To receive the honor, student-athletes must achieve at least a 3.0 grade-point average at their school for the previous semester, and participate in either a conference or non-conference sponsored sport.

The student-athlete must attend school for at least two full-time semesters.

The Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll is awarded twice a year, covering each of the fall and spring academic semesters, and is based on meeting criteria at the end of the previous semester. Pfeiffer University led the 11-team league with 168 student-athletes represented on the Spring Honor Roll.

Lindsey Frederick, an Eastern Wayne grad, earned Honor Roll status on the women's tennis team at Barton College. Sam Frazer, a senior at St. Andrews and Eastern Wayne grad, garnered Honor Roll accolades for women's soccer.

* Men's cross country -- Dorian Chadwick, Ian Hodges, Paul Hoffman, Marc Holaday, Cort McCombs and Kevin Ryan.

* Men's golf -- Martin Brekko, Kyle Ham, Clark Rose, Oscar Santamarina and Matthew Simpson.

* Men's soccer -- Frank Boateng, Adrian Daniels, Wayne Fluellen, Tyler Jameson, Chris McClaugherty, Kirk Peterson, Jose Rodriguez, Zach Scott and Stan Smith.

* Men's tennis -- Thiago Dualiby, Brevan Hewett, Diogo Miranda, Alexandre Queiros and Diogo Sender.

* Men's track and field -- Joseph Murphy, Sebastian Jackson, Chadwick, Hodges, Hoffman, Holaday, McCombs and Ryan.

* Men's volleyball -- Daniel Arnold, Tim Ebbecke, Noel Garcia, Camilo Guerci, Alex Hoekstra, Adam Miracle, Sean Moye, Christiaan Rombaut, Giora Sela and Alex Vazquez.

* Cheerleading -- Chadwick, Elizabeth Twigg.

* Women's basketball -- Simone Bland, Bridgette Briggs, Laporsha Davis, Shequanta McGee, Brittany Miller, Destinee Webb and Jasmine Whitby.

* Women's cross country -- Rocio Alvarado, Megan Jones and Nikolette Lucas.
