Wayne Christian girls boot Flora MacDonald, 4-0

Wayne Christian defeated visiting Flora MacDonald 4-0 on Friday.

Brooke Barfield and Miranda Taylor each scored for the Eagles in the first half. Kaitlyn Kosuda and Emily Austin provided the scoring in the second half.

Wayne Christian (6-5 overall) entertains Trinity Christian on Tuesday in opening-round play of the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament.

Tennis

Eagles triumph

RED SPRINGS -- Wayne Christian swept the doubles and rolled past Flora MacDonald Academy 8-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles (6-3 overall) snapped a three-match skid.

Wayne Christian's tandems of Chris Easom-Daniel Glover, Woody Sasser-Kenneth Giordano and Nicholas Easom-Matthew Thompson each emerged victorious on the doubles scene. Sasser-Giordano did not lose a game.

In singles, the Eagles picked up points from Chris and Nicholas Easom, Glover, Sasser and Thompson.

Wayne Christian travels to Greenfield on Monday.

Baseball

Chargers roll

Dare Uzzell surrendered just one hit over five innings and Wayne Country Day defeated Epiphany 10-0 on Friday.

Uzzell struck out four and walked three.

Cole Davis paced the offense with three hits and an RBI. Cameron Ford and Tucker Pearson each had two hits and three RBI. Cody Neal provided a home run.

Hil Tanner (RBI) and Tee Uzzell each had a hit.

The Chargers (12-6 overall) travels to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Tuesday.

Rams stumble

KINSTON -- Greene Central suffered a 7-1, Eastern Plains 2-A Conference loss on Friday night at Kinston.

Wes Sowers provided a double for the Rams. Zack Chase took the loss on the mound.

Greene Central (11-6, 7-2 EPC) visits SouthWest Edgecombe on Tuesday.

WCS falls

FAYETTEVILLE -- Fayetteville Christian scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and defeated Wayne Christian 8-7 on Friday.

The Eagles failed to capitalize twice with the bases loaded.

Stephen Gallagher collected four hits for Wayne Christian. Chandler Harrell (two RBI) and Luke Howell (RBI) each had three hits. Gregory Johnson added a hit and two RBI.

Howell endured the loss on the mound while pitching a complete game.

The Eagles (11-8 overall) plays host to Northwood Temple on Tuesday in the first round of the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament.

Softball

Saints defeated

DUDLEY -- Defensive miscues in the final three innings allowed South Johnston to claim a 12-2 victory over Southern Wayne in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action.

The Saints trailed 3-2 after four innings until their defensive lapse.

"We were right there ... the wheels fell off," said Southern Wayne head coach Michael Wiggs.

Kayla Gracyk doubled in a two-hit effort for the Saints. Madison Davis provided two hits, while Hope Rose and Taylor Davis contributed one hit apiece.

Taylor Parker endured the mound loss. She recorded seven strikeouts, issued five walks and yielded just three earned runs on nine hits.

Southern Wayne (5-13 overall, 2-6 ECC) entertains Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.

Track

Eagles take two

The Rosewood High boys' and girls' track teams each earned a tri-meet sweep over Carolina 1-A Conference foes Goldsboro and North Duplin.

Ashanti McFarland emerged victorious in the long jump, 100-meter dash and 200 dash to lead the Eagle boys to a 93-point outing. The Cougars collected 73 points, followed by the Rebels with 11.

Jacquez Raynor captured the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. Teammates Jaylan Sneed (triple jump), Ricky Donahue (pole vault) and Kaleb Frazier (800 run) each picked up a first-place finish.

Rosewood won the 800- and 1,600-meter relays.

On the girls' side, Alexis Green placed first in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Teammate Crystal Allen seized first in the 100 and 200 dashes.

The Eagles also got victories from Taylor Johnson (shot put), Logan Bill (long jump), Francesca Verceles-Zera (triple jump), Holly Heath (high jump) and Jennifer Page (pole vault).

Rosewood swept the relays.

JV sports

* Baseball: Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 5, Wayne Christian 4 -- Hunter Burt, Cameron Foss, Tanner Rose, Gregory Johnson, Tyler Mozingo, Dylan Smith and Brandon Price each had a hit for the Eagles.

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 11, Eastern Wayne 3 -- Adam Pate recorded six strikeouts in a four-inning stint and Collin DuBose provided three innings of scoreless relief. Cameron Taylor (2 RBI), Ryan Grant (3 RBI) and Justin Barbour cranked out two hits apiece for Aycock. Pate (RBI), Hunter Jones (2 RBI), Josiah Laser (RBI) and Zach Allen each contributed one hit. The Golden Falcons (17-2 overall) travel to Triton on Tuesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
