Rosewood got a goal in each half in a 2-0 home victory over non-conference opponent South Johnston on Thursday evening.

Kelsey Wolfe got the Eagles on the board in the first half off an assist from Logan Bill.

Bill scored in the second half off an assist from Cory Smith.

Rosewood held a 15-3 advantage in shots.

Eagle goalie Taylor Johnson recorded three saves.

Rosewood (5-4-0 overall) begins Carolina 1-A Conference play at Spring Creek on Monday.

Falcons, Bruins tie

PIKEVILLE -- Tara Simmons scored a game-tying goal on an assist from Taylor Demartini in the 35th minute as Charles B. Aycock and Wilson Beddingfield play to a 1-1 draw in non-conference play at Hardy Talton Stadium on Thursday night.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the 20th minute.

The Golden Falcons outshot Beddingfield 20-5 and keeper Courtney Sheeks finished with five saves.

Aycock (9-5-2 overall) entertains Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe South Johnston on Monday.

Baseball

Rams cruise

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central cruised past Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opponent SouthWest Edgecombe 12-2 in six innings on Thursday.

Wes Sowers (five RBI) and Will Crandle (two RBI) both contributed two hits.

Deric Grant tossed a complete game, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.

The Rams (9-5 overall, 5-1 EPC) play host to EPC foe Wilson Beddingfield today.

Faith rolls

Faith Christian hammered Hillside Christian 12-2 in five innings in non-conference play on Thursday.

Silas Denlinger went 4 for 4 at the plate with a two-run home run for the Conquerors. Michael Clark added a solo homer.

Matt Lambert, Brandon Jones and Wes Caudle each saw time on the mound for Faith.

The Conquerors (7-0) continue non-conference play at home today against Mount Calvary.

Tennis

Chargers drop Eagles

AYDEN -- Ayden-Grifton handed Rosewood its first loss of the season in the form of a 6-3 defeat in Carolina 1-A Conference action on Thursday.

Zach Behrend and Jamez Henriques both earned a point in singles play for the Eagles. The doubles team of Matt Binda and Antonio Henriques was also victorious.

Rosewood (8-1 overall, 3-1 CC) is now tied with Ayden-Grifton for first place in the conference standings. The Eagles visit Spring Creek on Tuesday.

Cougars bag Gators

Goldsboro turned back Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Spring Creek 8-1 on Thursday.

Bernard Green, Charles Robinson, Nathan Wright, Chuck Stanley and Ed Hererra were each singles winners for the Cougars.

The doubles team of Green-Ingram was also victorious for Goldsboro.

Ethan Willoughby and Thomas Edwards earned the lone point for the Gators in doubles play.

Track

CBA prevails

LaGRANGE -- Charles B. Aycock's boys compiled a team score of 71 to claim a Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tri-meet at North Lenoir on Thursday.

Triton earned 58 points while the host Hawks tallied 40.

The Golden Falcons' Antonio Applewhite finished in first place in the long jump while teammate Tyrice Gilbert was first in the 300 meter hurdles. Cade Ivy bested the competition on the 800 meters.

Aycock also finished first in the 400-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays.

The Golden Falcons are scheduled to compete in the Wayne County Championships on Monday at Rosewood.

EW takes tri-meet

FOUR OAKS -- Eastern Wayne's girls collected 69.5 points and captured a tri-meet at South Johnston on Thursday.

South Johnston finished second with 46.5 points and Southern Wayne was third with 38 points.

Tiarra McIntyre earned first place finishes for the Warriors in the 100 meter hurdles and the high jump. Tia Jones was first in the 800 meters and 400 meters.

Madeline Edwards crossed the line first in the 3,200 meters and Brianna Coleman finished first in the 200 meters. Eastern Wayne also captured the 800- and 1,600-meter relays.

Eagles edge Gators

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Rosewood's girls tallied 74 team points and finished just ahead of Spring Creek's score of 70 on Thursday in a Carolina 1-A Conference dual meet.

Crystal Allen finished first in the 100 and 200 meters for the Eagles. Amani Perry claimed first place in the 400 meters and Alexis Green was first in the 300 meter hurdles.

Rosewood swept the four relays.

Melanique DeVeaux finished first for the Gators in the high jump and the 200 meters. Spring Creek's Hannah Keel was first in the discus and teammate Dorothy Brooks earned first place in the shot put.

Also finishing first for Spring Creek were Norma Valentin (100 meters, 300 meter hurdles), Savannah Egleston (1, 600 and 3,200 runs), Courtney Frey (triple jump), Jade Graham (long jump), Morgan Washington (100 meter hurdles) and Sara Boltinhouse (800 meters).

The Gators also crossed the line first in the 400-meter relay.

Rosewood's boys prevailed with a team score of 93 ahead of Spring Creek's 50.

The Eagles' T.J. Frost was first in the shot put. Ahkeem Simms took home first place finishes in the high jump, 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

Ashanti McFarland crossed the line in first place in the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Jaylan Sneed earned a first place finish in the 1600 meters and Brandon Bragg outlasted the competion in the 3200 meters.

Rosewood swept all four relays.

Softball

Saints no-hit

North Johnston hurler Taylor Creech tossed a no-hitter and recorded 17 strikeouts in a 1-0, non-conference victory over Southern Wayne on Thursday afternoon.

Saints hurler Taylor Parker threw a complete-game, four-hitter.

The Panthers scored the game's lone run on a second-inning, infield error.

Southern Wayne (4-11 overall) travels to Triton today.

JV Sports

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 17, Northern Nash 1 -- Adam Pate (three RBI) and Ryan Grant (two RBI) both had two hits for the Golden Falcons. Collin DuBose, Cameron Taylor, Brett Bartlett and Dylan Hinnant each contributed a hit. Avery Anderson earned the win on the mound. Aycock (14-2 overall) visits North Lenoir today.

Middle schools

* Soccer: Eastern Wayne 4, Greenwood 1 -- Megan Mozingo scored twice for Eastern Wayne. Kayla Wiebe and Destinee Gardiner also scored. Kaylah James scored Greenwood's lone goal. Eastern Wayne (6-1-0 overall) plays host to Norwayne on Tuesday.

Middle schools

* Softball: Princeton 5, Four Oaks 1 -- Logan Pace, Savannah Massengill and Katelyn Edwards each contributed three hits for the Bulldogs. Charley Cox, Kasey Edwards, Tori Paul and Carson Braswell each tallied two hits. Courtney Myers and Jasmine Bombard both had one hit. Massengill pitched all seven innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
