MOUNT OLIVE -- Freshman Lauren Darden tossed her first collegiate no-hitter and followed that with a one-hitter as Mount Olive College swept a softball doubleheader against St. Paul's (Va.) University on Wednesday afternoon.

Darden recorded 10 strikeouts in the opener, an 11-0 Trojans decision. In the nightcap, the Southern Wayne alum carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning and finished with eight strikeouts as MOC won by the same score.

Each game ended after 41/2 innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Alyssa Bradshaw's two-out, three-RBI double spearheaded a nine-run, first-inning outburst in game one. The Trojans sent 13 batters to the plate during that stretch, and got run-producing hits from Kelly Bowen and Anna Munizza.

Bradshaw's RBI double triggered a seven-run, third-inning uprising in the second game.

The Trojans (16-24 overall) hit the road this weekend for back-to-back Conference Carolinas doubleheaders, beginning Friday at Erskine. MOC is the guest of Anderson on Saturday.

Volleyball

MOUNT OLIVE -- Conference Carolinas men's volleyball player-of-the-week Jose Lanier matched his own school record with 10 blocks, and Mount Olive College swept Eastern Mennonite University 33-31, 30-28, 30-20 on Wednesday evening at Kornegay Arena.

Noel Garcia led three Trojans in double figures with a match-high 14 kills. Christiaan Rombaut provided 11 kills and a match-leading nine digs defensively, while Adam Miracle supplied 10.

Alex Hoeskstra dished out 42 assists.

The Trojans (15-3 overall) conclude regular-season play at home Friday in the 2010 MOC Classic. They entertain King (Tenn.) College for their final conference match of the year at 6 p.m. Immediately after that match, MOC faces Mount St. Joseph's.
