The Warriors claimed the rematch.
Jose Ponce scored the game-winning run in a wild finish and Eastern Wayne claimed a 6-5, eight-inning victory over Northern Nash on Wednesday evening.
Less than one year ago, the teams met for the eastern 3-A regional championship, which was won by the Warriors.
Down 3-2 and facing its last at-bat, Eastern Wayne loaded the bases and collected the game-tying run when a Knights pitcher plunked Zach Beachum.
Northern Nash scored two runs in the eighth.
Colton Fulghum kept the Warriors alive with a one-out, bases-loaded double that forged a 5-5 tie. Cambric Moye followed with a one-hop shot to third base that resulted in a rundown. Jose Ponce outraced the Knights' third baseman and dove home ahead of the throw for the winning run.
Ponce finished the night with three hits, including a solo home run. Fulghum added two hits and two RBI. Hunter Newsome contributed two hits.
Michael Fields earned the win on the pitcher's mound after one inning of relief. Logan Wicks pitched seven innings and took a no-decision.
Eastern Wayne (3-6 overall) jumps back into Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play tonight when it plays host to Triton at 6:30 p.m.
