MOUNT OLIVE -- Kelly Minshew's fifth-inning grand slam powered Mount Olive College past West Virginia State 7-4 in the nightcap of a non-conference, softball doubleheader at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field.

WVSU won the opener, 8-0.

Trailing 4-1 in game two, the Trojans' Mandy Hensley ignited the rally with a one-out single. Robbin Kennedy legged out an infield single and Kayla Voorhees blooped a single to center field, which loaded the bases.

Hensley scored on a groundout to make it 4-2.

Minshew stepped into the batter's box and drilled the first pitch over the left-field fence. It was the shortstop's fifth home run of the season and first collegiate grand slam.

"I wasn't thinking grand slam at all," said Minshew, a junior from Stantonsburg. "I just wanted to find a way to drive in a run or two. I knew it was gone as soon as I hit it.

"It felt good!"

Voorhees added a sixth-inning homer -- her first of the season.

Kristin Ware picked up the mound win in relief of starter Sasha Snyder. She permitted two hits and fanned one WVSU batter.

In the opener, WVSU hurler Kelsey Lorraine tossed a three-hitter and logged eight strikeouts.

Mount Olive (11-19 overall) entertains UNC Pembroke on Thursday.
