LaGRANGE -- Charles B. Aycock began its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference baseball campaign with an 11-3 win at North Lenoir on Tuesday afternoon.

Adron Hollowell was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and a three-run home run for the Golden Falcons. Nicholas McGee added a pair of hits. Tyler Farmer (2 RBI), Travis Musselman (2 RBI) and Tyler Ruffin (RBI) each had a hit.

Bryant Stafford recorded the win on the mound, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five innings.

Grayson Phillips and Spencer Bass each collected two hits for the Hawks. Najee Jackson, Wilson Sutton and Jonathan Huntley each had one hit.

Aycock (9-1 overall, 1-0 ECC) visits South Johnston on Friday, while North Lenoir (3-5, 0-1) plays host to Southern Wayne.

Rams sink Vikings

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central defeated Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe Kinston 11-3 on Tuesday.

Trent Murray, Wes Sowers and Deric Grant each contributed two hits and three RBI for the Rams. Sowers also hit a two-run home run in the second inning. Zack Chase and Will Crandle both had two hits.

Grant tossed a complete game, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and four walks to earn the win.

Greene Central (5-2 overall, 3-0 EPC) plays host to non-conference opponent Spring Creek today.

Softball

Falcons roll

LaGRANGE -- Connor Davis belted a two-run home run and Charles B. Aycock opened Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with a 10-0 win in five innings at North Lenoir on Tuesday.

Brooke Bell (2 RBI) and Cara Frederick (RBI) each supplied two hits for the Golden Falcons. Davis, Jessica Hare (RBI), Courtnei Gilbert, Autumn Pittman (RBI) and Misty Edwards all had hits.

Bell (3-1) picked up the win on the mound allowing three hits while striking out two and walking three in five shutout innings.

Aycock (5-2 overall, 1-0 ECC) entertains South Central on Thursday.

Eagles bag Gators

Wayne Christian held Spring Creek to just two hits and picked up a 7-1, non-conference home win on Tuesday.

Sarah McCollum went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double for the Eagles. Rachel McCollum, Victoria Combs and Courtney Barrow all had hits.

Rachel McCollum earned the win in the pitcher's circle.

Wayne Christian (4-0 overall) travels to defending independent 1-A state champion Cape Fear Christian next Tuesday.

Warriors fall short

South Johnston slipped past Eastern Wayne 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon in New Hope.

It was the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener for both team.

Lani Fricks led the Warriors going 2 for 2 at the plate. Jessica Ream (RBI) and Sedonia Scott both added a hit.

Fricks took the loss on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk in a complete game.

Eastern Wayne (3-5 overall, 0-1 ECC) entertains Triton on Friday.

Saints struggle

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne was defeated 15-0 in five innings by Triton in its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener on Tuesday evening.

Triton senior pitcher Candace Faircloth threw a no-hitter and the Hawks pushed across eight runs in the third inning and six more in the fifth.

The Saints entertain ECC foe North Lenoir on Friday.

Tennis

Rosewood wins

Rosewood turned back visiting Wayne Country Day 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Cole Radcliff, Travis Cuddington, Antonio Henriques, Zach Behrend and Daniel Elawar were each victorious in singles play for the Eagles.

The doubles teams of Matt Binda-Henriqes and Behrend-Elawar were also victorious.

Rosewood (4-0 overall) visits North Lenoir on Monday.

Golf

SCHS prevails

Spring Creek tallied a team score of 347 to claim a Carolina 1-A meet at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.

Rosewood's Will Caughron earned medalist honors with a round of 80, followed by the Gators' Kenneth Freeman, who shot an 83.

The Eagles finished second with a team score of 353 ahead of North Duplin's 472. Goldsboro was fourth with a score of 482 and Princeton recorded a 682. Ayden-Grifton did earn a team score.

Phillip Holland led the Rebels with a round of 109 and Obadiah Speight paced the Cougars by carding an 87. Ryne Woodard fired a 91 for the Bulldogs.

Walnut Creek LGA

Faye Franklin emerged the play-of-the-day winner during weekly tournament action on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.

Mary Ann Sutton and Gaye Bryant seized low gross and low net, respectively, in first flight. Evelyn Rosewood and Betty Holloway shared low net in second flight play, while Beverly Ives captured low putts.

On March 16, Nancy Satterfield was the play-of-the-day winner.

Sutton and Bryant grabbed low gross and low net, respectively, in first flight. Other winners were Joyce Reynolds (low gross, second flight); Dot Julian (low net, second flight); and Novella Zambelli (low putts).

Sutton won second net in first flight play during an Eastern Ladies League tournament at Southern Wayne Country Club. Franklin had second low gross and Zambelli had low putts in second flight.

Satterfield (first low net) and Linda Cannon (low putts) fared well in third flight.

Middle schools

* Softball: Rosewood 10, Mount Olive 1 --Jordan DuBose and Alicia Burns both went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Eagles. Emily Brock struck out eight and did not allow a walk to earn the win in the pitcher's circle.
