MOUNT OLIVE -- Sean Lydon and Carter Capps each tossed a complete game, and No. 2-ranked Mount Olive swept archrival Barton College in a Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

Lydon retired nine of the first 11 batters he faced, and scattered seven hits as the Trojans took the opener, 9-1. Capps logged six strikeouts and yielded six hits in a 12-0, game two victory.

In game one, Barton loaded the bases in the fifth inning, but Lydon (6-0) thwarted the scoring threat with an inning-ending groundout. The Bulldogs avoided the shutout with an unearned run in the seventh.

Dan Hayduk provided the offensive power with three hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Mike Knox belted his conference-leading 15th home run -- a two-RBI blast in the third inning.

Daniel Coffey provided a fifth-inning, two-RBI double. Hayduk ended the scoring with a bases-loaded, two-RBI single in the sixth.

Barton threatened to score first in the nightcap when Aaron Watkins singled with two outs and Sam Pepper doubled in the first inning. Capps escaped the inning with a groundout.

Capps (5-0) sat down 19 of the final 23 batters he faced. He retired the side in order in the second and fifth innings, and concluded the contest with five strikeouts.

Mount Olive (21-1 overall, 10-1 CC) erupted for eight, third-inning runs. Knox and Hayduk cranked out back-to-back doubles. Coffey and Jeremy Nowak, who extended his hitting streak to 22 games, each supplied a two-RBI single.

Knox stepped into the batter's box for the second time in the inning and slapped a two-run homer over the left-field fence. The Trojans led 10-0.

Kyle Hinrichs added a two-RBI, fifth-inning homer -- his first of the season.

The Trojans have won 10 of the last 11 meetings against the Dogs, and 19 overall in 29 tries since 2002. They wrap up their three-game series today at Scarborough Field. First pitch is 2 p.m.
