MOUNT OLIVE -- Jackson Massey scattered two hits in six scoreless innings and Mike Knox belted his 13th home run of the season, pacing nationally-ranked Mount Olive College past Davis & Elkins 12-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Trojans (18-1 overall) are ranked No. 2 in the NCBWA Division II top 25 poll, fourth nationally by Collegiate Baseball and 12th overall in the latest Ping! Baseball rankings.

Massey, a Charles B. Aycock alum, did not allow a runner to reach second base. The right-hander retired the final eight batters he faced and finished with five strikeouts. Jordan Corbett and Sheldon Johnson combined for the final three innings in relief at Scarborough Field.

Mount Olive seized a 4-0 lead after three innings. Dan Hayduk provided a two-RBI single in the first, and singled and scored in the third.

Knox ripped his home run, a two-RBI shot, over the left center-field fence in the fourth inning. The round-tripper helped fuel a five-run outburst that included Kyle Hinrichs' run-scoring double.

Jeremy Nowak, who was named Conference Carolinas player-of-the-week, collected an RBI single in the fifth inning. Knox had an RBI sacrifice fly in the same inning, while Tyler Smith supplied an RBI single in the sixth.

Senior preseason All-American Jesse Lancaster pounded out three hits in five at-bats. Bobby Leeper, Hinrichs and Ryan Faison contributed two hits apiece in the Trojans' 18-hit attack.

The teams conclude their series today.
