WINTERVILLE -- Eastern Wayne erased a 5-0 deficit and held on a for a 6-5, non-conference win at South Central on Tuesday.

The Falcons led 5-0 entering the sixth inning before the Warriors cut the lead to 5-3.

Logan Wicks' three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning put Eastern Wayne ahead for good. Wicks finished 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and three RBI. Colton Fulghum and Cambric Moye each had a hit and an RBI. Josh Frederick provided a run-scoring walk.

Frederick tossed a scoreless inning of relief to earn the save. Wicks, who earned the save, allowed three earned runs on three hits to go along with three strikeouts and three walks in a three-inning relief stint.

The Warriors (1-1 overall) travel to Wilson Hunt today.

Saints triumph

BEULAVILLE -- Southern Wayne picked up a 4-1, non-conference road win at East Duplin on Tuesday afternoon.

Saints starting pitcher Jeremy Taylor recorded the win allowing two earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 4 1/3 innings.

Josh Crawford tossed 2 2/3 of scoreless relief to earn the save.

Taylor Brock (3 RBI), Cody Davis (RBI) and Breyon Johnson each provided hits for Southern Wayne.

The Saints (4-1 overall) play host to Spring Creek on Friday.

CBA falls short

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock rallied from a 5-0 deficit, but watched as Wilson Hunt scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning in a 7-6 loss on Tuesday afternoon.

Connor Narron went 1-4 with a grand slam for the Golden Falcons. Jordan Quinn added a solo home run. Adron Hollowell was 1 for 4, while Jon Taylor had a hit and an RBI.

Bryant Stafford took the loss on the mound in relief.

Aycock (4-1 overall) visits Greene Central on Friday.

Eagles earn win

Wayne Christian began Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play with a 4-2 win over visiting Crossroads Christian on Tuesday.

Gregory Johnson (2 RBI), Chandler Harrell (RBI) and Dillon Smith each provided a hit for the Eagles.

Starting pitcher Tyler Mooring picked up the win, allowing one run on two hits. Stephen Gallagher worked four innings of relief allowing one run on two hits while striking out 10.

Wayne Christian (3-0 overall, 1-0 CCC), ranked third in the state among 1-A independent schools, entertains conference foe Cresset Christian on Thursday.

Softball

EW walks off

Carissa Turner's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Sedonia Scott from second base, and Eastern Wayne earned a 4-3 victory over Greene Central on Tuesday evening.

Lani Fricks tallied two hits for the Warriors, including a triple. Stephanie Smith supplied a hit.

Fricks pitched a complete game allowing three runs (none earned) on six hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk. The Rams left six runners on base.

Eastern Wayne (2-1 overall) travels to Spring Creek on Friday.

Faith prevails

Faith Christian opened its season with a 7-5 victory over Cornerstone Christian on Tuesday.

Taylor Stocks, Brianna Champion, Christina Powell and Elizabethe Weeks each had hits for the Conquerors.

Hannah Stocks got the win in the pitcher's circle.

Rebels fall short

CALYPSO -- Hobbton scored twice in the top of the eighth inning and slipped past North Duplin 3-1 on Tuesday.

Ansley Hill, Raychel Barwick and Casey Thornton each had a hit for the Rebels.

Skylar McCarty suffered the loss in the pitcher's circle allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks in a complete game.

North Duplin (0-2 overall) travels to James Kenan on Thursday.

WCS dominates

Wayne Christian hammered Northwood Temple 18-0 in 4 1/2 innings on Tuesday.

Rachel McCollum led the Eagles at the plate with four hits. Sarah McCollum, Kayla Kennedy and Courtney Barrow all chipped in two hits. Reagan Hinton provided a double.

Rachel McCollum was the winning pitcher tossing a no-hitter with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Wayne Christian (1-0 overall) visits Terra Ceia for a doubleheader on Saturday.

Girls' soccer

WCS rolls

Wayne Christian began its season with a 6-0 victory over Crossroads Christian on Tuesday afternoon.

Brooke Barfield scored three goals for the Eagles. Miranda Taylor added a pair of goals and Kaitlyn Kosuda also scored.

Wayne Christian (1-0-0 overall) entertains Cresset Christian on Thursday.

CBA, Hunt tie

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Madison Mercer delivered the tying goal late in the second half as the Golden Falcons played to a 1-1 tie with No. 11-ranked Wilson Hunt on Tuesday night.

The Warriors took a 1-0 in the 32nd minute of the first half. Courtney Sheeks recorded six saves in goal for Aycock.

The Golden Falcons (1-2-1 overall) visit Rosewood on Thursday.

Tennis

Rams win

WILSON -- Greene Central picked up its first win of the season by defeating Wilson Beddingfield 8-1 on Tuesday.

Eric Simmons, Colby Chase, Hunter Thigpen, Dylan Smith and Ian Whitson were all victorious for the Rams (1-2) in singles play.

The doubles teams of Simmons/Chase, Smith/Thigpen and Alex Deans/Johnley Fostanes were also winners.

SW cruises

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne remained unbeaten with a 7-2 win over East Duplin on Tuesday.

Kobi Hood, Cameron Thames, Brandon Outlaw, Alan Nunez and Allen Cansler each earned singles victories for the Saints. The doubles teams of Hood/Outlaw and Nunez/Cansler were also victorious.

Southern Wayne (3-0 overall) travels to Clinton on Thursday.

Warriors down Gryphons

ROCKY MOUNT -- Eastern Wayne strolled past Rocky Mount 7-2 on Tuesday.

Chaz Fitzpatrick, Joseph DiCesare, Marvin Bowman Jr. and Mike Ames each provided singles wins for the Warriors.

The doubles teams of Fitzpatrick/Barnette, Dunmire/DiCesare and Bowman Jr./Ames were also victorious.

Eastern Wayne (4-0 overall) visits Southern Nash on Monday.

Falcons blank Warriors

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock had little trouble in a 9-0 win at Wilson Hunt on Tuesday.

The Golden Falcons (2-0 overall) travel to Wilson Fike today.

JV sports

* Baseball: Eastern Wayne 14, South Central 5 -- Wes Stewart went 3 for 5 at the plate for the Warriors with three-run homer. Tyler Ware contributed two hits. Wes Capps, Benito Avila, Ryan Mitchell and Jeremy Lancaster all had a hit. Josh Dixon collected the win on the mound.

Middle schools

* Softball: Rosewood 4, Eastern Wayne 2 -- Ashlynn Spell and Anna Ingram each had two hits fro Rosewood. Callie Thornton was the winning pitcher. Rosewood (2-0-0 overall) visits Brogden on Monday.

* Girls' soccer: Greenwood 3, Rosewood 0 -- Cheyenne Craft scored twice for Greenwood and Kaylah Jones added a goal. Helaina Hernandez dished out an assist. Greenwood (2-0-0 overall) plays host to Eastern Wayne on Monday.
