PIKEVILLE -- C.B. Aycock got a timely hit and escaped with a 3-2, non-conference victory over county rival Rosewood on Monday afternoon.

Connor Narron delivered the game-winning single in the home half of the seventh inning. Tyler Farmer raced home from second base and sent the Golden Falcons' dugout into a frenzy.

"I thought we had a very good week last week and maybe we were feeling good about ourselves going into today," said Golden Falcons' head coach Charles Davis. "Rosewood came out focused and we were fortunate to come away with a victory."

Two miscues in the final two innings spelled disaster for the Eagles.

Leading 2-1, Rosewood starting pitcher Matt Neal struck out Jonathan Taylor, but the pitch in the dirt rolled away and forced a throw to first base to complete the out. The ball sailed high of the target and into right field which allowed Taylor to race around to second base.

After stealing third on the first pitch of the next at-bat, Taylor raced home on another ball that escaped catcher Will Beasley.

"I told my guys after the game that it came down to giving up too many chances," said Rosewood head coach Jason King. "C.B. Aycock is a good team and when you give them opportunities, they are going to capitalize."

With the game tied 2-2, Tyler Farmer lifted a sky rocket into left field that fell into and out of the glove of the Rosewood defender to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. Narron immediately followed with the game-ending base hit.

Narron paced the Golden Falcons' offense with two hits, a double and an RBI. Adron Hollowell belted a solo home run in the bottom of the first.

Aaron Champion earned the mound win by tossing 2 2/3 innings of sterling relief. Hollowell retired the final batter of the game and got the save.

"I thought all three of our guys threw the ball well tonight," said Davis. "We are going to need some tough outings if we are going to be successful."

Neal absorbed the hard-luck loss for the Eagles (1-1). The senior right-hander tossed a complete game, allowed six hits and one earned run.

"Matt gave us all that he had tonight," said King. "He threw 93 pitches, which is more than we would like this time of year, but he wanted to throw this game and he wanted to finish it."

Rosewood returns to action on Wednesday at Midway. C.B. Aycock (4-0 overall) entertains Wilson Hunt today.
