MISENHEIMER -- Nationally second-ranked Mount Olive College started quick with a five-run first inning and got themselves out a couple of late jams en route to a 14-9 win over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Misenheimer, N.C. The Trojans improve to 17-1 overall, 8-1 atop the league's standings while the Falcons dip to 10-13, 6-6.

Each team pounded out 13 hits in the affair with Pfeiffer trying to catch up from the get-go. Michael Knox picked up where he left off on Saturday with an RBI single to put the Trojans on the board. After Dan Hayduk singled home Jeremy Nowak, Mount Olive took advantage of an infield throwing error to score three unearned runs to end the first.

Nowak led the Trojans with a 4-for-6 afternoon with three RBI while Knox behind him in the lineup went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Coupled with Hayduk in the fifth slot, Mount Olive 3-4-5 hitters combined for a 9-for-13 afternoon with a pair of homers.

Mount Olive, which has played four games in three days, plays host to Davis & Elkins for a two-game series Monday and Tuesday at Scarborough Field. The series was moved up a day due to expected weather issues later in the week. Game time both days is 4 p.m.
