MOC men's, women's tennis defeat Coker

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive won all the singles matches in straight sets and swept the doubles matches as the Trojans defeated Coker 9-0 in Conference Carolinas men's tennis Saturday at Walker Tennis Center. Alexandre Queiros won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and combined with Diogo Miranda for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Diogo Sender's 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles clinched the team victory for the Trojans.
Diogo Miranda posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, while Luiz Mariano lost only one game at No. 5 singles. Gabriel Santana (No. 2 singles) and Bevan Hewitt (No. 3 singles) also posted wins.
The win improves Mount Olive to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Coker is 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Mount Olive is off until Friday when the Trojans travel to Misenheimer, N.C., to take on Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas action. Match time is 2 p.m.
MOC Women victorious
Sophia Medeiros and Jessica Souza fought off five match points to rally for a win at No. 1 doubles as Mount Olive defeated Coker 7-1 in Conference Carolinas women's tennis Saturday at Walker Tennis Center.
Medeiros and Souza battled back from deficits of 6-3 and 8-7 before pulling out the 9-8 victory. Camila Kurebayashi's 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles clinched the team win for Mount Olive.
Medeiros dropped only one game in her singles win, while Pietra Viana and Patricia Guedes both won their singles matches. Souza overcame a 6-0 loss in the first set to even the match at a set apiece, but Alyssa Blanchard captured the third set for Coker's lone victory.
The win improves Mount Olive to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Coker is 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
