PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock got its varsity tennis season off to an impressive start with a 9-0 win over Wilson Hunt on Friday afternoon.

Addison Westbrook earned a victory at number one singles that started the Golden Falcons' rally.

Will Hoff, Brad Wilson, Rex Rose, Kareem Alawar and Austin Walker each added a singles point respectively for the victors.

The duos of Westbrook-Hoff, Wilson-Rose and Alawar-Walker each prevailed in doubles play.

C.B. Aycock (1-0 overall) travels to Hunt on Tuesday.

Warriors triumph

Eastern Wayne claimed two key points during doubles play and bested Greene Central 5-4 on the tennis courts in New Hope on Friday.

Chaz Fitzpatrick, Josephe CiCesare and Mike Ames each earned a point respectively in singles play.

The tandems of Aaron Dunmire-Dicesare and Carson Daly-Ames each pulled-out a doubles point.

"Dunmire and DiCesare pulled out a 9-8 win at number two doubles and that sealed it for us," Eastern Wayne head coach Craig Hassel said. "Injuries and illness have really affected our team and we hope to keep getting stronger as we get some of tose players back."

Colby Chase, Dylan Smith and Josh Recre each claimed their singles match for the Rams.

Eastern Wayne (2-0 overall) plays host Wilson Fike on Monday.

Baseball

Eagles earn win

Roewood got a strong mound performance from veteran Matt Neal and powered past Midway 6-4 on Friday night.

Neal earned the win by throwing three innings and striking out four Raiders.

Trevor Cox paced the Eagles at the plate wiht one hit in two plate appearances and two RBI.

Rosewood travels to C.B. Aycock on Monday.

CBA cruises

WILSON -- C.B. Aycock unleashed a hitting barage en route to a 12-0 victory over Wilson Hunt on Friday.

Adron Hollowell led the Golden Falcons with three hits and two runs batted in. Tyler ruffin added two hits and three RBI. Jeff Carmel added two hits including a double.

Bryant Stafford pitched five scoreless innings for the mound win. Aaron Champion tossed one inning of sterling relief.

C.B. Aycock (2-0 overall) entertains Rosewood on Monday.

Saints split pair

VANCEBORO -- Southern Wayne picked up a 7-2 win over West Craven on Saturday.

Cody Davis collected two hits and an RBI. Kevin Wise (RBI), Zach Grantham (RBI), Taylor Gainey (RBI), Tyler Gainey and Breyon Johnson each added hits.

Freshman Will Raynor picked up the win on the mound allowing two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

The Saints never got on the right track defensively in a 10-4 loss to Greene Central on Friday night at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.

Of the Rams 10 runs only four were earned.

Jeremy Taylor suffered the loss on the mound for Southern Wayne.

Wise led the Saints in the batter's box with two hits, including a double. Cody Davis added two hits and Taylor Brock finished with one base knock.

Southern Wayne (2-1) plays host Wallace-Rose Hill on Monday.

Rebels prevail

NEWTON GROVE -- North Duplin used a six-run third inning on its way to a 10-8 win at Hobbton on Friday.

James Kornegay led the way with a 3 for 3 day at the plate. Kornegay had four RBI, a double, a triple and a stolen base. Will Lanier added a pair of hits and an RBI. Mitchell Thigpen (2 RBI) and Brian Chase both contributed hits.

Brian Chase got the win on the mound for North Duplin allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and five walks.

The Rebels (1-0) entertain Hobbton on Tuesday.

Softball

Hawks falter

DEEP RUN -- North Lenoir came up short in it's bid to knock off Lenoir County rival South Lenoir on Friday. The Blue Devils captured a 3-2 victory.

Kristin Davenport paced the Hawks at the plate with a two-hit performance that included a double.

Aaryn Deal took the loss in the pitcher's circle despite striking out seven batters.

North Lenoir (1-1 overall) plays host Spring Creek on Monday.

Bulldogs bite Saints

DUDLEY -- Princeton defeated Southern Wayne 11-1 in six innings on Friday.

Traci Bridgers (RBI) and Hannah Woodard (2 RBI) both provided two hits for Princeton.

Madison Davis, Taylor Parker and Hope Rose all contibuted hits for the Saints.

Parker took the loss on the mound for Southern Wayne.

The Saints (0-1) play host to Wallace-Rose Hill on Monday.

Girls' soccer

Rosewood victorious

Gabby Cornman scored four goals and Rosewood routed visiting Midway 9-2 on Friday night.

Cornman scored three times in the first half as the Eagles built a 4-2 lead. Francesca Verceles-Zara, Kelsey Wolfe, Britney McGill and Rachyle McAlduff (two goals) all scored for Rosewood.

Cory Smith, Cornman, Wolfe and Chelsea Sasser each had assists.

The Eagles (1-0) visit North Lenoir on Monday.
