ROCKY MOUNT -- Rocky Mount built a 2-0 halftime lead and defeated Charles B. Aycock 3-0 on Thursday night.
The Gryphons scored on a penalty kick in the second half. Goalkeeper Courtney Sheeks finished with 10 saves for the Golden Falcons.
C.B. Aycock (1-1-0 overall) travels to Eastern Plains 2-A member Wilson Beddingfield on Monday.
Game site changed
The Eastern Wayne-South Central varsity baseball contest slated for today in Winterville has been moved to Eastern Wayne.
First pitch is 5 p.m.
It is the season opener for the Warriors, who advanced to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A championship series a year ago. Just two starters graduated off that team, which also won the Eastern Carolina Conference regular-season and tournament crowns.
The junior varsity game will not be played.
Middle schools
* Girls' soccer: Eastern Wayne 3, Rosewood 1 -- Megan Mozingo scored twice and recorded an assist for Eastern Wayne in the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference opener for both teams Thursday. Allison Dixon added a goal. Danielle Cornman scored for Rosewood. The Warriors (1-0-0) play host to Grantham on Tuesday. Rosewood (0-1-0) visits Grantham on March 17.
