Bulldogs' Burroughs recognized

HIGH POINT -- Barton College freshman Cynthia Burroughs has been named the Conference Carolinas softball player-of-the-week.

A designated hitter, the Charles B. Aycock alum batted .667 with eight hits, four RBI and a run scored during the North Carolina Central softball tournament. The Dogs were the lone Division II team competing in the event and finished with a 2-2 record.

Burroughs batted 2-for-2 with three RBI against South Carolina State, and turned in a 4-for-4 effort against Delaware State. The right-handed hurler threw two scoreless innings of relief and earned a save against N.C. Central.

Twinbill postponed

MOUNT OLIVE -- The top-15 battle between perennial baseball powers Mount Olive College and Catawba, which was scheduled for today, has been postponed.

No make-up date has been announced.

The Trojans (14-0 overall) play host to Lake Erie on Thursday. First pitch is 1 p.m. at Scarborough Field.

Mount Olive picked up four of 11 first-place votes and is ranked No. 2 in the season's first NCBWA Division II Baseball Top 25 Poll. The Trojans received 253 points in the poll to place only 12 points behind top-ranked Florida Southern.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Mandy Hensley scored the game's first run on Robbin Kennedy's third-inning, RBI single, but Mount Olive fell to Mary (N.D.) 9-1 on day two of the Rebel Spring Games.

Rain washed out Tuesday morning's scheduled contest against Northwood (Mich.).

Pirates snowed out

HIGH POINT -- The baseball game between No. 11-ranked East Carolina and High Point scheduled for today has been cancelled due to poor field conditions caused by snow in the area.

The game will be made up at a later date to be determined.

The Pirates (4-3 overall) will be back in action this weekend when they play host to the seventh annual Keith LeClair Classic. ECU will play contests against Illinois, West Virginia and in-state foe Western Carolina.
