Hollowell: Louisburg JC 'right fit' for C.B. Aycock hurler

PIKEVILLE -- When searching for his future college home, Adron Hollowell wasn't just looking for a program with a tradition of winning, he was also looking for the right fit.
The Charles B. Aycock pitcher and outfielder found that fit with Louisburg College.
Hollowell attended a camp at Louisburg toward the end of 2009 and it was then the Hurricanes began to express interest in the Golden Falcons' senior. Louisburg head coach John Thomas, an Aycock alum, has discussed using Hollowell mainly in the outfield and at first base.
"I like the small classroom size and I think I can develop as well there as I can anywhere else," said Hollowell. "I don't think they've ever had a losing season."
Louisburg has won 25 conference championships, 10 district championships and has made 10 appearances in the NJCAA Division I College World Series. In 2002, the Hurricanes set a school record for wins finishing 51-11 and made their 10th trip to the College World Series.
During the course of the past 46 years, more than 80 Hurricanes players have signed professional contracts. In the program's history, 12 Louisburg College alumni have played Major League Baseball.
An All-Eastern Carolina Conference selection in 2009, Hollowell hit .381 with 19 RBI, eight doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs. He went 2-1 on the mound with two saves, and 46 strikeouts and only 11 walks in 40 innings of work.
"I've learned here to be well disciplined, do the right thing and listen carefully," said Hollowell. "I think I can get better as a hitter and my all-around game. I just have to keep getting better and better if I want to compete."
Aycock finished 18-7 a year ago and advanced to the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.
"Baseball wise, I honestly think Adron's best years are to come," said Golden Falcons head coach Charles Davis. "He's going to mature physically more and keep maturing as a person more. I think he's going to step in at Louisburg and be fine. I think he's going to keep getting better."
Hollowell plans to major in business.
