Wayne County competitors control meet

Wayne County swimmers captured first place in 21 of 23 contested events during a seven-team meet Tuesday evening at the B.G. Darden Natatorium.

Charles B. Aycock's girls started the commanding effort with a first-place peformance in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Carrigan Chastain, Bryce Connolly, Taylor Allen and Nicole McGrath touched the wall in 2 minutes, 13.48 seconds.

Allen claimed supremacy in the 200 and 50 free events, while Connolly captured the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Chastain triumphed in the 100 fly and 100 back.

The same quartet won the 400 free relay in 4:19.36.

Eastern Wayne's Meagan MacLeese recorded first-place efforts in the 100 free and 500 free. Teammates Hannah Schaefer, Joanne Talton, Victoria Marshburn and Caroline LaFave combined for a meet-winning time of 2:12.53 in the 200 free relay.

The Golden Falcons and Warriors tied with 132 team points.

Southern Wayne's Tyler Jones earned his second consecutive 1-meter diving victory with 354.50 points. The Warriors' Collin Hobbs and Denzel Benjamin placed second and third, respectively.

The Saints' foursome of Christian Newberry, Sam Ferrell, Dylan Atwood and Chad Davis touched the wall first in 4:11.73 during the 400 free relay.

The Warriors seized the 200 free relay. Alex Lloyd, Keith Gregorcyk, Christian Bermudez and Shane Legg combined to swim a time of 1:44.66. Legg added victories in the 50 and 100 free.

Goldsboro's Logan Cole secured first-place times in the 200 IM and 100 fly. Teammate Travis Paul won the 200 and 500 free events.

Eastern Wayne's boys scored a meet-best 130 points.

The teams return to the pool Jan. 26 for the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference Championships. The diving competition starts at 3:30 p.m.
