WILSON -- Rosewood recorded eight individual victories, including seven pins, in a season-opening 46-30 conquest of Wilson Beddingfield on the wrestling mat Thursday evening.
"It was so good to get a good, initial start to the season wrestling a quality team like Beddingfield," said Rosewood coach Bill Edmundson, who is a Beddingfield alum. "We have a lot of new facaes in our lineup, and so early in the season you never know how the younger guys are going to react."
The Eagles did well on the "game side" of the mat.
Chris Lane (103 pounds), Nick Quillen (112), Scott Pate (140), Matt Coley (145), Josh Pipkin (152), Taylor McGill (189) and 215-pounder Scott Mason each pinned their respective opponent.
Zach Behrend, a returning state qualifier, captured a major decision at 119 pounds.
"We earned some key wins from these younger guys that secured the victory for the team," said Edmundson. "We (still) have a long way to go."
Rosewood wrestles again Saturday in the annual Falcon Invitational at Charles B. Aycock. Opening-round matches begin at 9 a.m.
