SNOW HILL -- Greene Central cruised through the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A dual-team tennis playoffs with a 9-0 win over Northeastern on Tuesday afternoon.
Lauren Carraway, Elizabeth McLawhorn, Samantha Taylor, Jessica Gray, Abby Sugg and Abbey Dail all contributed singles victories for the Rams.
The doubles teams of Carraway-McLawhorn, Taylor-Sugg, and Gray-Dail were also winners.
Greene Central (19-6 overall) entertains Topsail next Tuesday in the second round of the playoffs.
CBA defeated
ROCKY MOUNT -- Charles B. Aycock had its dual-team season end with a 9-0 loss against state-ranked Rocky Mount during the NCHSAA 3-A playoffs on Tuesday.
The Golden Falcons concluded the year at 12-8.
Aycock's Ashley Howell, Hollie Baker, Abbey Strickland and Katie Gurley return to action Friday in the eastern regional at Barton College. Howell and Baker will participate in singles, while Strickland-Gurley will play doubles.
First serve is 2 p.m.

Gators cruise
SEVEN SPRINGS -- Antonio Avila collected four goals as Spring Creek hammered South Lenoir 10-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Dante Ortiz added two goals.
The Gators (9-2-1 overall) travel to Rosewood today.
Volleyball
Conquerors fall
LEXINGTON -- Faith Christian was handed a season-ending 25-20, 25-13, 25-22 loss at Sheets Memorial on Tuesday in the N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A tournament.
Madison Caudle provided four kills for the Conquerors. Zoe Singer pitched in three digs and two blocks. Courtney Albritten had three kills and three digs, while Christina Powell added five assists.
Faith Christian finished 9-7 overall.
Golf
Walnut Creek ladies
Hiromi Sueki captured play-of-the-day honors during weekly tournament play at Walnut Creek Country Club.
Mary Ann Sutton and Josie Ottiviani shared first low gross. Faye Franklin won first low net and Linda Cannon earned second low gross.
Dot Julian won low net and Gaye Bryant took home low putts for the field.
Lane Tree LGA
Linda Watson emerged the game-of-the-week winner during play on the Lane Tree Golf Club links.
Linda Hilburn and Libby Newsome captured low net and low putts, respectively.
