Trio paces Aycock attack

RED OAK -- Tyler Famer, Adam Pate and Jeff Carmel each collected two hits to lead Charles B. Aycock past Northern Nash 11-0 in an American Junior Legion baseball game Tuesday evening.

Officials halted the game after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Jordan Quinn permitted three hits and recorded two strikeouts in a complete-game effort. He threw just 45 pitches.

Aycock (18-3 overall) travels to Benson today.

Wayne North wins

BENSON -- Hunter Barnett threw a complete game on the mound as Wayne County North stopped Benson 12-5 in American Junior Legion baseball action Tuesday evening.

Jake May led North with two hits.

Walnut Creek LGA

Mary Ann Sutton emerged the play-of-the-day winner during weekly tournament play at Walnut Creek Country Club.

Novella Zambelli and Evelyn Rose won first low gross and first net, respectively. Charlotte Campbell and Dot Julian claimed second gross and second net, respectively.

Kathy Woodard took low putts.

Lane Tree LGA

Linda Watson captured second low gross in championship flight play during a recent Eastern Ladies League tournament.

Betty Jean Gurley had first gross in third flight, while Lou Ellen Flowers seized low net in fourth flight. Eileen Henderson picked up low putts in fifth flight.

Watson secured all three categories -- game-of-the-week, low net and low putts -- during weekly play on the LTGC links for June 15.

One week later, Libby Newsome and Betsy Clark shared game-of-the-week honors. Betsy Clark had low net. Watson and Merritt tied for low putts.
