WINTERVILLE -- One day after upending league-leading and then-unbeaten New Bern, misfortune fell upon Wayne County Post 11 on Sunday evening.

Pitt County 160 plated seven runs over the final three innings and claimed a come-from-behind, 8-7 victory on the South Central High School diamond. The loss knocked Post 11 from the top spot in Area I East South Division play.

Matt Neal endured the mound loss in relief of starter Taylor Allen, who permitted five runs (all earned) on seven hits in six-plus innings. Neal surrendered three runs (all earned) on three hits in a two-inning stretch as Wayne County had its three-game win streak snapped.

Designated hitter Cambric Moye and utility player John Wooten paced Post 11's offense with two hits apiece. Moye collected three RBI, while Wooten clubbed his first homer in just his second Legion outing of 2009.

Neal, Nick McGee and Robert Faucette each contributed one hit. Cody Richards, who signed with Lenoir Community College, supplied an RBI.

Just 24 hours earlier, Wayne County (6-4 overall) put together an eighth-inning rally to edge New Bern 8-5 at Boykin Field.

McGee singled on the first pitch, and moved into scoring position on a walk and hit batsman. Scott Holloman delivered an RBI single. Richards bounced a grounder to the third-base side and Post 24 threw the ball away.

Holloman eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Neal took over the pitching duties and tossed two sterling innings of no-hit, scoreless relief. He replaced Jesse Randolph, who worked one-third of an inning behind starter Zack Mozingo.

A rising sophomore at Eastern Wayne, the soft-throwing Mozingo allowed five runs (all earned) on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. He threw 82 pitches, including 53 strikes in humid, steamy conditions.

Holloman, McGee and Tyler Edwards emerged the offensive leaders with two hits apiece. Moye, Faucette, Richards and Collin DuBose each contributed one hit in the road win.

Wayne County concludes Area I East South play this week. Post 11 entertains Pitt 160 on Tuesday, is the guest of Pitt County 39 on Wednesday and welcomes New Bern on Thursday. Each game begins at 7 p.m.
