LaGRANGE -- Southern Wayne capped a successful week of Junior American Legion baseball action with a 10-8 victory over North Lenoir on Wednesday night.
Taylor Brock got Southern Wayne on the board with a first-inning, grand slam home run.
Undaunted, North Lenoir (3-4 overall) rallied in its half of the first with three base hits on the first three pitches of the night from starter Will Broadwell.
Kevin Wise provided the go-ahead base hit in the sixth inning when he lined a two-strike offering into the gap for an RBI double.
"It was one of those back-and-forth games," said Southern Wayne head coach Trae McKee. "It just came down to us getting the last hit with men in scoring position."
Wise finished 3-for-4 on the night with two doubles and a home run. Tyler Gainey added three hits. Cody Davis scored three runs after drawing three base-on-balls.
Duane Gurganus pitched 12/3 innings of relief to claim the pitching victory.
Southern Wayne (5-3) will play host to North Raleigh on Sunday for a doubleheader. First pitch is 2 p.m.
McKee's team split a doubleheader Saturday against the Cary Bulls.
