Eastern Wayne tallied five errors en route to a 9-2 loss in the opening game of the NCHSAA Class 3-A state baseball championship series at Five County Stadium on Friday night.
"Anytime you give a good team five errors you dont have much of a chance," Warriors head coach Jabo Fulghum said. "We need some guys to step up and get the job done."
John Wooten led the Warriors offensively with two hits including a solo home run in the sixth inning. Walker Gourley added two hits and scored a run in the defeat.
Josh Frederick took the loss on the pitchers mound for the Warriors after allowing six runs but only one earned run.
Nick Lomascolo earned the win for the Wildcats with a complete-game effort. The lanky left-hander struck out nine Eastern Wayne batters.
