WILSON -- Woody Sasser and Daniel Glover combined to capture three silver medals as Wayne Christian tied for fourth overall during team competition in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A men's tennis championships.

Sasser finished runner-up at No. 4 singles to undefeated Tyler Stadler of Elon. Later in the day, Sasser teamed with Glover to take second place at No. 2 doubles.

Taylor Gray (No. 1 flight), Chris Easom (No. 2 flight) and Glover (No. 3 flight) either marched past the opening round or reached the semifinals in their respective singles matches. Easom, an eighth-grader, endured his first loss of the season against Cresset Christian senior Stuart Guidrey, who won the state title at No. 2 singles.

Jason Lin advanced past the opening round at the No. 6 flight before losing to eventual state champion Rob Linens of Elon.

Also in doubles, Gray-Easom advanced to the semifinals.

Elon Christian (30 points) emerged the team champion in the two-day event contested on the Barton College Tennis Complex courts. Faith Christian-Rocky Mount (20) took second, followed by Cresset Christian with 15 points. Wayne Christian and Kerr-Vance shared fourth place with 14 points apiece.
