Bogle, Wilson bring home gold

GREENSBORO -- Princeton's Jania Bogle and T.J. Wilson combined to claim three gold medals during the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A women's and men's track and field championships contested Friday.

Bogle emerged the state champion in the 100-meter dash (12.25 seconds) and long jump (17 feet, 21/4 inches), and claimed a bronze medal (third place) in the 200 dash. The senior helped the Dawgs take home sixth place in the team competition.

Rosewood's Sade Davis placed sixth in the 100 hurdles. Spring Creek senior Richelle Butler ended up fifth overall in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, 91/4 inches.

Wilson, who won three regional crowns on his home track one week ago, captured the triple jump state title with a wind-aided distance of 46 feet, 9 inches. He grabbed a silver medal in the 300-meter hurdles and recorded a bronze-medal effort in the 110 hurdles.

Teammate Decardo Cole placed fourth in the high jump.

Princeton wound up fourth in team competition with 42 points.

James Kenan's Dasmine Smith finished state runner-up in the 100 dash and took third in the 200 dash.

Reid earns silver

GREENSBORO -- Charles B. Aycock senior Khendra Reid seized a silver medal in the 100-meter dash during the NCHSAA 3-A men's track and field championships on Saturday.

Reid broke the tape in 11.18 seconds, a mere seven-hundredths of a second behind the state champion.

"Khendra's hard work and dedication over the last four years paid off in the state finals today," said Aycock coach Jay Westbrook. "He was within a whisker of winning the championship, but it is such a great accomplishment to get that far in the state championships."

Deven Sanders competed in the 200 meters, but endured a groin pull during the preliminaries. Sanders and Reid came back to help the Golden Falcons take 10th in the 400-meter relay. Completing the quartet were Dominique Young and Craig Murdock.

"These guys worked hard all year just to get the chance to qualify for the states, and then to go up there and finish 10th is another great feat for our track program," said Westbrook.

Eastern Wayne's Stacey Edwards took the bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.77 seconds.
